11.12.2025 15:26 β π 3 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0They should put it on Heritage Auctions... some sucker will pay a few grand for it on there.
11.12.2025 11:36 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I have a pile of xerox copies of old cover blurbs and titles that was given to me and the other on staff letterers at Marvel when I worked in the bullpen. The majority of these are from the 70s and were done by Danny Crespi. Some really fantastic work here!

"The Man, The Metal, And The Mayhem!"
Now, that's a story title!
(From Iron Man #111, by Bill Mantlo, Keith Pollard & Fred Kida, letters by Joe Genovese.)
I would watch the shit out of this buddy movie.

10.12.2025 05:10 β π 8610 π 2581 π¬ 39 π 31A while ago, I wrote about how Jack Kirby's original concept for the Silver Surfer conflicted with Stan Lee's, and how it was just one of many differences of opinion that led to Kirby leaving Marvel Comics. comicdeepdive.blogspot.com/2025/01/stan...

09.12.2025 17:03 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The cover of Fantastic Four #48, "The Coming of Galactus!" Artwork by Jack Kirby & Joe Sinnott. It's Galactus' birthday too, of course, but I feel like he's probably above such trivial things.
The first appearance of the Silver Surfer in FF #48. "Somewhere in the deep vastness of space, an incredible figure hurtles through the cosmos... a being whom we shall call the SILVER SURFER, for want of a better name!"
Fantastic Four #48, Silver Surfer #1, Silver Surfer #4, and Fantastic Four #72.
Happy 60th birthday to the Silver Surfer!
Fantastic Four #48 came out on 9th December 1965. Stan Lee told Jack Kirby to have the FF "fight God" but when Jack brought the artwork in, "there, in the middle of the story was a nut on a flying surfboard. I thought, 'Jack, this time you've gone too far!'"

There were a bunch of continuity issues in Secret Wars, like the fact that Professor X had regained the use of his legs, but then was back in his wheelchair in Secret Wars. In Secret Wars #2, Shooter provided a kind of catch-all explanation for everything that was wrong:

09.12.2025 09:22 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I never understood why they got rid of Orion's helmet. Was there an in-story reason for it? A typically quirky, instantly recognisable Kirby design replaced by the most generic-looking superhero costume ever. π€¦ββοΈ
