I suspect possibly the closest is Silksong. Lot of 💾🐎 over the runbacks there and the necessity to go back and farm consumables to assist with bossfights. It just feels like Friction for the sake of boosting play time to me.

I wonder if Soulslikes retain any of their distinct identity as a genre game if you remove the deliberately mean runbacks and like, have reasonable checkpointing.
