SouthAfrican universities are chock full of very forward-thinking & progressive faculty members.

Many of these ppl are whiteβ€”along w/mixed-race, black, asian, & other internat'l faculty. It's esp true among the students attending these universities.

They have been a vortex of soc/cultural change.

Yeah, that's trueβ€”esp inasmuch as the bigots perceive themselves as being *more* free to "be themselves" here in the US than they would if they were to work in major SAfrican urban areas.

Since the end of Apartheid, they can speak & organize in less populated areas, but feel scolded elsewhere.

They find sympathy with rich assholes like Musk who REALLY want to go back to a time of white supremacy.

But *in* SAfrica, the votes are simply NOT there! They would have to RECREATE apartheid in order to legally restore it.

So they're fucked. And now they pout. Angrily.

Quite correct.

By mid-'23 all across the country shuttered buildings were opening up new as businesses. There was tremendous economic movement. At various points & in # of places, there were more job openings/opportunities than there were applicants to fill them.

But high prices got the headlines.

AOC's for pol speech was very good. Said all the right things, & was quite clear.

But it seems she can't talk about the Dem Party w/o being both unnecessarily critical (namely: you really ought not constantly seek to create distance b/w yourself & "the party"!) and mistaken in her critique.

Nods in IL-09…

15.02.2026 23:14 β€” πŸ‘ 54    πŸ” 9    πŸ’¬ 4    πŸ“Œ 0

The community included in #IL09 is incredible diverse and includes tons of immigrants and people of different backgrounds, including a very! diverse list of candidates she’s running against

She also said a line β€œif where I’m born is your dealbreaker”

That’s also very much not the argument

16.02.2026 01:01 β€” πŸ‘ 60    πŸ” 12    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 2

The real question I often hear is more simply knowledge of the community you seek represent

Which is the whole point of being a representative. Of course that knowledge can be learned and trust built but as many know it does take time

Trump’s Relentless Self-Promotion Fosters an American Cult of Personality

I suppose it’s good that the NY Times wrote this, but they need to get beyond style issues and warn the public loudly that Trump is building a dictatorship. I’m not alarmed about golden statues β€” I’m alarmed about concentration camps and masked government thugs executing people in the street.

Imagine, just imagine, putting this in terms of β€œdelight.” You have a chance to cast a vote against the government terrorizing American cities and presiding over the needless deaths of millions and you need *delight*? Get the fuck out of here.

Gawker's fate was sealed when A.J. Daulerio flippantly joked while testifying under oath that he would find a sex tape of a 5 year old sufficiently newsworthy to publish on Gawker. Peter Thiel funded that lawsuit, yes, but Gawker did themselves zero favors in how they handled it.

A white person centering themselves on immigration issues during ICE's full assault on anyone brown is gross enough, but comparing the criticism of "carpetbagger" to the immigrant experience is just....whew... disgusting.

Tuesday at 5:00?

Uptown is not the 49th ward. Uptown is the 46th ward. It’s south of the 48th ward. Which is south of the 49th ward. Her office is in the 49th ward. I think when she finally moved to the district it was to Rogers Park. Which is the 49th ward. Not the 46th ward. 46th ward is Uptown.

Back in 2020 I saw several prominent leftist commentators say that even though they considered Trump a fascist, if Bloomberg became the Dem nominee theyd sit it out and all I heard from that was "fascism isnt actually the dealbreaker for me I say it is"
