I'd argue that the opening to Time And Punishment with Homer's hand getting jammed in the toaster may be one of the most perfectly timed jokes on The Simpsons ever. The first time I saw it, I laughed until I cried.

Thanks, tho, I think this has helped me clarify my own feelings on it. I like a lot of the scenes and moments but it feels really muddled overall and doesn’t quite hang together as a story.

Like a nonspecific haunt with an abstract threat isn’t intrinsically a bad thing, and maybe that’s intentional because a dog doesn’t like, get being haunted. But that also makes me the viewer unclear on how concerned/tense I should feel?

Yeah, I’ve been kind of conflicted on it, there was a lot I liked about it, the vibes like you said, the imagery, the tracking shots of the dog. But I also totally agree about the lack of specificity and clarity. The vagueness of it all kind of works against it being such a simple story?
