Could be an ambient light sensor on monitor that adjusts contrast/brightness depending on ambient light. Could be a proximity sensor. Both of these things are on some modern monitors and could certainly depend on where your shadow falls when you get up.

She's great but the whole point of allowing NPs to see patients was to increase access to primary care, which is clearly not happening.
