An insight I had a while back was that I am not part of the "we" for people who say "we" to reach across political disagreements. The person saying this doesn't see me as a party to the conversation, they see me as an object of unpleasant, unnecessary division.

I actually don't think that's it. I think certain privileged white people are angry that others of their ilk prefer spaces that include us than in spaces that have run us out. They see it as a betrayal that our voices would be valued by people who they feel ought to sensibly abandon us to our fate.

The thing that keeps getting me about all the pieces fretting about Bluesky being too insular is that the argument seems to be that those of us who are most likely to be abused by the right (BIPOC people, trans people, queer people, etc) must put up with being abused for the sake of public discourse

I think it's smart to recognize your limitations in both understanding and processing new information tbh. I think that's different from straight up knowing and understanding and responding "I could do something to help fix this situation but have chosen not to."

You reduce it to "all different perspectives" but fail to understand that some of those perspectives are absolutely abhorrent and lead them to do atrocious things. I'm fine with "different perspectives". I'm not fine with the bigoted actions that follow those specific perspectives.

And guess what happens when the mentions for a missing persons cases are filled with the worst comments you've seen in your entire life? People are less likely to share that information, which also hurts the chances of them being found safe.

I share Missing, Murdered, and Unidentifed LGBTQ+ persons cases. Guess who are the people who come into my mentions to talk about genitalia or say absolutely horrible things about the literal victims I post about?

That is because of the inherent structure of our system. I'm all for trying to get a parliamentary system, but that would require a shitton of work by the left long term, and a bunch of the left won't even go vote against literal fascists, so I am skeptical at it's feasibility. 🤷‍♂️

This past year, I found a Trans murder victim who was killed in 1986 who wasn't listed anywhere. I find more people who were missed every single time I go digging through old periodicals, records, and databases. The work I do is difficult, relentless, and unfortunately unending.

Remember that the TDoR list is just the *lowest* number of Trans people who have died this past year. People who are missing and believed to be deceased aren't included. It's very difficult to track this information internationally, and we will be finding people from this year for *decades*.

There was a Trans victim who passed away during hurricane Helene. Because they do not mention being Trans anywhere publicly, and their family has also not mentioned it, we will not post their name. But we saw them, and their family, and we remember and honor them.
