'We had no recourse': East Vancouver residents object to new e-scooter docking stations During its first phase in Vancouver, Lime introduced e-scooters and docking stations in the Hastings-Sunrise and Grandview-Woodland areas.

This resident is objecting to the new Lime scooter station because - not a joke - it's "ruining her view."

This is what we're up against when we push for more micromobility.

This is an incredible marathon of posting on Bluesky from a City of Vancouver Councillor. He’s documenting an unofficial filibuster at City Hall as over 600 people have signed up to speak at the budget hearing. Over 200 have said their piece so far. Follow along.

Listening to Vancouver Council budget discussion in the background this morning. In response to a question from @seanorr.bsky.social about where they'll be retracting from the city just said they're planning to REMOVE baby changing tables and menstrual product dispensers to save costs. Shameful.

The Kingsway transit priority proposals are good, but we can do better - Better Columbia TransLink and the City of Vancouver are proposing transit priority measures and bus stop balancing along Kingsway, focusing on Route 19. And it’s a great place to start! The 19 is the 9th most used bu...

Hi Bluesky πŸ‘‹

Small life update: I’m at the centre of a multimillion dollar lawsuit in Alberta launched by a failed candidate for Jason Kenney’s UCP

It may be the longest and most expensive media trial in Canadian history

I’m ready to go public about it and I want to share more details with you 🧡

That was my read of it too. Public transit moved to a bigger pot of money, but that pot of money is responsible for many more things, like wastewater infrastructure! Which we all know is dirt cheap πŸ™„

Johnstone asks Councillor Minhas to not advertise partisan activities during council announcements.

Meeting adjourned!

A couple of bylaws were approved.

A few appointees were named to the New West Library Board.

McEvoy tells a story and encourages people to attend the Remembrance Day ceremonies.

Campbell acknowledges the indigenous poppies that were gifted to council.

Henderson speaks to Halloween festivities.

Minhas amends to have it be annual, and part of the City's Annual Report instead of separate and biannually.

Multiple people speak against the amendment so it "doesn't get buried" in the large annual report. Amendment fails.

Main motion carries with Minhas opposed.

(motion carries 5-1)

Nakagawa has a motion to have staff report back regularly on the city's progress on truth and reconciliation. She motivates with personal experiences being attacked online specifically about this motion and its topic. Calls on her colleagues to call out hate like she sees.

Minhas moves a motion to refer that to the Arts and Economic Development committee. Says it's federal issues so not council responsibility. No one seconds it so it fails.

Johnstone argues in favour of the motion saying that having a great postal system is a huge benefit to the city

Sorry, I'm not following along very well tonight. There was a report back from staff on some New West school stuff but it didn't go anyway.

Motions from council: McEvoy has a motion to advocate to the federal government to stop the cuts to Canada Post, particularly the door-to-door service.

That was an amendment. Carried with Minhas in opposition.
Main motion: Minhas asks to defer this to next meeting. Carried.

On to items pulled from consent: 2026 council meeting schedules and acting mayor schedules.

Nakagawa asks staff to report back on whether other cities adjust Acting Mayor (AM) schedules in election years to attempt to avoid politicking. Schedule currently has Councillor Fontaine as AM in Oct 2026.

Council agreed unanimously (Fontaine absent, Minhas recused) to proceed this file and basically say to the applicant that they will receive their proposal, and provided the applicant a list of "requirements" for the project.

Ok done both presentations and on to the 801 Columbia St (the empty lot on the corner of New West Stn). Previous issues were: lack of affordable housing (or amenity contributions), constructability, elevator/escalator access to skytrain.

Note: this isnt even a full rezoning. just prelim discussion
