11.08.2025 02:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A hand holding an in-progress knit hat in front of a weathered deck and blooming hydrangeas. The hat, which is being knit from the top down, is knit in hand dyed yarn that is pooling in uneven stripes of grey, burgundy, and tan. The hydrangeas are pink and white.
I needed a break from socks so I started a Musselburgh hat by @ysoldaknits.bsky.social for my new travel project. Perfect for knitting on the deck until it got too dark to see! π§Ά

1. Knit swatch 4 inches square.
2. Claim swatch is 6 inches square.
3. Do not block swatch. Blocking is woke.
4. Measure gauge.
5. If gauge is off, smash ruler.
6. Claim ruler was made by Biden.
7. Gauge is now correct.
8. Continue to not release Epstein files.
A pair of hand spun, hand knit socks laid out on a faded blue deck railing above a blooming hydrangea. The socks have short, rolled cuffs and a traditional heel flap. The yarn is blended shades of bright blue, brown, sea green, red-purple and dark blue, and is spun to create a striped or color blocked effect. The striping on the two socks does not match. The hydrangeas are in full bloom in pink, white, and pale green.
I fell off the #tourdefleece wagon so hard. My travel project for my work trip was no good - short staple wool that I wanted to spin thin for socks does not go with a heavy spindle - and I was swamped with homework when I got back. Still, I finished my handspun socks on the plane! #knitting π§Ά
03.08.2025 23:48 β π 38 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Ohhh I kind of want another espinner! What have you tried? I have an EEW Nano 1.0 with an upgraded motor, and it's fun and inexpensive, but feels like more of a toy to me. It does make yarn, although it only spins well at very thin weights and the bobbins don't hold much. Also finicky!
13.07.2025 18:53 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A multi-layered mesh drying rack hanging in a messy garage. The black drying rack, which is meant for herbs, has six levels, each with a bright green zippered opening, and all six levels are full of drying wool which can be glimpsed through the black mesh fabric.
Nope, no actual spinning yesterday, but I'm not calling it a rest day because I dyed just over 3 pounds of fiber... Now the garage smells like vinegar and wet dog!
13.07.2025 15:56 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A metal strainer, sitting in a metal sink, full of brightly colored wool. The wool has not been processed besides scouring and dyeing, and is still mostly clumped in wavy locks. It has been dyed shades of turquoise, ocean green, lavender, and lilac.
A hand holding two bobbins of blueish yarn above a spinning wheel that holds a third bobbin of the same yarn. The spinning wheel, an old-style single treadle Schacht Matchless, is a warm honey colored wood, but the 3D printed bobbins are an incongruous shade of metallic silver with bright red gears on the end. The yarn is roughly DK to worsted weight singles in turquoise blue with hints of purple and gray. The person holding the two bobbins has a tattoo of a tiger kitten holding a ball of yarn on their arm.
Days 7 and 8 of #tourdefleece! I finished spinning the last of my dyed Romney last night, and decided to dye some more today. I took no measurements or notes for any of this - pure vibe dyeing! Not sure yet if any actual spinning will take place today... #handspinning #handdyeing π§Ά

10.07.2025 23:07 β π 532 π 149 π¬ 17 π 0Interesting, how often do you take it apart to clean it? I have only had my WW since December and it isn't giving me problems, but I would rather do maintenance before it does if necessary.
11.07.2025 00:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A top down view of a variety of yarn spinning paraphernalia. On the left is a spinning wheel on the floor, bearing a nearly full bobbin of muted turquoise yarn. On the table to the right is a spread out batt of wool, the same turquoise/gray/lavender/blue as the yarn on the spinning wheel, and there is another bobbin full of yarn sitting on the batt. Also sitting on the batt is a Turkish spindle with a small cop of pale green yarn.
Days 3-6 of #tourdefleece! Work and homework are seriously interfering with my spinning schedule, but I managed to finish another bobbin and start my travel project. I'm also now half way through Dungeon Crawler Carl 4, which I coincidentally started on day 1 of the tour. #handspinning π§Ά
11.07.2025 00:08 β π 41 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0If you're lucky, somebody might have modeled it for 3d printing and released the files. I have a Schacht wheel and found the WW bobbin file on thingiverse, so my husband printed 10 of them for me. They work just as well as the bobbin that came with the WW!
06.07.2025 23:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I have to say, I love my Woolee Winder. Not having to stop at all to change flyer hooks or position increases my productivity so much! But don't forget the cost of individual bobbins, it might be a lot more expensive depending on how many bobbins you like to have...
06.07.2025 23:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A bobbin of hand spun singles held by a person's hand. The singles are turquoise with hints of lilac and have a woolly, fuzzy texture.
A bowl of unspun, uncarded wool on a kitchen scale. The bowl is green, the scale is black and silver, and the fiber is varying shades of blue, green, and purple. The scale has been tared to remove the weight of the bowl, showing that the fiber weighs 232g.
Day 2 of #tourdefleece! I only spun for a half hour, and that might be it because it is unpleasantly hot and humid and I have homework due today. Still, I finished this bobbin of singles and weighed my remaining fiber. I'll do a bit more carding later to be ready for tomorrow. #handspinning π§Ά
06.07.2025 15:53 β π 34 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A close up view of a bobbin on a spinning wheel, mostly full of turquoise yarn. The yarn has bits of lavender mixed in, and in the background is a pile of turquoise and purple dyed wool.
A drum carder loaded up with the turquoise and purple wool. The wool on the drum is mostly turquoise with a few streaks of darker teal. The feed tray has a layer of lightly fluffed wool ready to be added to the batt, which shows the various shades of lilac, blue, and sea green more clearly. After blending, the colors will mostly mix together into a muted haze.
Day one complete! The 3 batts I prepared ahead of time spun up in about 2 hours, which is much faster than I expected, and nearly filled 1 bobbin. I carded two more bats and probably have enough dyed wool for 8-10 more. Now to decide if I should dye the other 2 pounds or spin it as is...
05.07.2025 20:11 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A dog lounging in a patch of sunlight streaming in through a skylight, next to a spinning wheel. Indie, the dog, is light tan, wearing a teal collar, and looks very relaxed. The spinning wheel, a Schacht Matchless, has a small amount of muted blue-green yarn on the bobbin.
A dyed sheep fleece spilling out of a white pillow case onto a wooden table. The portion on the left is uncarded, and the naturally silver-brown wool has been dyed shades of turquoise, teal, and lavender. On the right, some of it has been carded into batts, blending the colors into muted but still lovely shades. In the background is a drum carder and a cup of coffee.
Indie decided to join me for the #tourdefleece kick off. My goals are to spin every day, spin all of this Romney fleece, and get my new (to me) Country Craftsman wheel up and running. If I finish the Romney, I also have a pound of merino to dye and blend with sari silk. #handspinning #handspun π§Ά

Practicing core spinning onto fairy lights! USB lights are much brighter than battery lights, and while I'm very pleased I can plug them into a timer and not worry about batteries, the brightness overpowers the color of the fiber a bit. #handspinning #handspunyarn #artyarn π§Ά

My first (successful, not-immediately-on-the-verge-of-disintegration) handspun sock! The opposing ply yarn really feels amazing and squishy, yet dense and sturdy. I do not usually suffer from second sock syndrome, but #tourdefleece starts soon... #sockcuterie #handspinning #knitsky #yarn π§Ά

A small charcuterie board and a ball of yarn on a wooden table. The yarn looks predominantly blue in this picture but still has striations of other dark colors. The board has an appealing array of crackers, cheese, and cured meats, with a few blackberries and chocolate covered almonds for dessert. It's just enough for a meal for one person, or a snack for two.
#sockcuterie has commenced! I'm knitting Rose City Rollers in yarn I dyed and spun. Most of this knitting has sadly been without snacks, but it was fun to put together a pretty board to accompany the cast on. Is anyone else knitting socks this month? #knitting #knitsky #handspun #handspunyarn π§Ά
