Four-panel meme using scenes from “Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones,” featuring Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala sitting in a grassy meadow.
	•	Top left: Close-up of Anakin, wearing a dark tunic, speaking with the caption: “Ai is going to be used to change the world.”
	•	Top right: Close-up of Padmé, wearing an ornate floral headpiece and an off-the-shoulder dress, smiling brightly with the caption: “As a tool to make the world better right?”
	•	Bottom left: Close-up of Anakin looking back at her silently, without a caption.
	•	Bottom right: Wider shot of Padmé in the same meadow, but now her dress is altered to reveal exaggerated, prominently large cleavage. She looks toward Anakin with a serious expression, and the caption repeats: “As a tool to make the world better, right?”

English to appear above te reo Māori in New Zealand passport redesign The move reflects the government's commitment to using English first, Internal Affairs Minister Brooke van Velden says.

We are the first peoples of Aotearoa, who extended our manaakitanga to non-Māori. Agreeing to share our country. This Government has no intention of honouring Te Tiriti, instead choosing to entrench systemic racism. Shame. I am appalled and heartsore.

Watch: Lewd gossip about Tory Whanau shared by Auckland councillor Maurice Williamson The sexually explicit comments were made in an Auckland Council committee meeting.

People may question why I’m opening up now, or calling this a political hit job. Frankly I don’t care what people call it, the community DESERVES to know who these men are. If they can’t treat colleagues with basic decency, they don’t deserve to be elected. Don’t be gross, easy as that.

There’s zero political incentive for someone no longer running for mayor to use the election spotlight to contribute to the current ‘conversation’ about gendered harassment pushing people out of NZ politics.

Imagine knowing for years that a bunch of your male peers are fixated on your sex life.

Not a single negative can be attributed to this bill. Not a single cis person has had their lives impacted by this bill.

It has only helped to make life that little bit easier for trans folk & hopefully contributed somewhat to better acceptance.

Especially considering terf island next door.

coroner finds NT police officer who shot Kumanjayi Walker was racist and can’t rule out that racism played role in fatal shooting

constable Zachary Rolfe was racist and it cannot be ruled out that his attitudes contributed to his conduct on the night. He shot and killed Kumanjayi Walker a coroner has found.

The inquest findings into Walker’s death were delivered by the northern territory coroner Elisabeth Armitage in Yuendumu on Monday.

She said she could not exclude the possibility that Rolf’s views had contributed to the fatal shooting. “ Mr. Rolf was racist and he worked in and benefited from an organisation with the hallmarks of institutional racism” Armitage said

Submit against the Regulatory Standards Bill The Regulatory Standards Bill is designed to put profit ahead of people, erase Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and make effective provision of public and community services incredibly difficult.

A good simple resource👇🏽

At very least state “I oppose the Regulatory Standards Bill. It should be thrown out. I do not want an amended version of the Bill passed.”

Seymour’s behaviour personally attacking NZers who oppose his bill disqualifies the Bill. Too much power to him who abuses it #nzpol

In Māori culture, Matariki is the Pleiades star cluster and a celebration of its first rising in late June or early July. The rising marks the beginning of the new year in the Māori lunar calendar.

Matariki is the Māori name for the cluster of stars known to Western astronomers as the Pleiades in the constellation Taurus. Matariki is a shortened version of Ngā mata o te ariki o Tāwhirimātea, "the eyes of the god Tāwhirimātea".[1] According to Māori tradition, Tāwhirimātea, the god of wind and weather, was enraged by the separation of heaven and earth – his parents, Ranginui and Papatūānuku.[1] Defeated in battle by his brother, Tāwhirimātea fled to the sky to live with Ranginui, but in his anger he first plucked out his eyes as a gesture of contempt towards his siblings, and flung them into the sky, where they remain, stuck to his father's chest. In Māori tradition the unpredictability of the winds is blamed on Tāwhirimātea's blindness

The thing that Seymour misses with the ongoing and bollocks “silent majority” narrative, is that when people had a chance to speak, they spoke loudly to him and his ilk. And they said, to quote Matua Don, ‘shut up, dickhead’.

It's an astonishing political gambit to openly acknowledge that women have definitely been underpaid for years, but won't be paid back because otherwise there won't be a tax break for wealthy people.

And if their voters are ok with that, then I'm not ok with them.

I quoted Howard Zinns "can't be neutral on a moving train" in the positionality section of my research proposal & remembered it's also paraphrased in this System of a Down song

Got me thinking, is there anything like that today? Popular artists quoting public intellectuals?
