Every time I see a new version of a Rebel Loon or a Laser Loon (or a Rebel Laser Loon), I know that someone else out there agrees that MN > ICE.

Every time I see someone bring a handmade sign (or twelve) to a protest, I feel pride in my community.

I've walked and talked with middle school kids who've eagerly pointed out various ICE OUT imagery and iconography around the cities.

They're being impacted by this chaos and violence -- seeing signs and stickers (and hats!) helps them bring up the topic as they need to process it.

My opinion on things like this changed after I walked down my street and saw that people had left out candles and signs in support of the ICE resistance here in Minneapolis.

It's hard to express how important it is for communities to visibly and clearly state their values.

It's the emotional equivalent of watching someone show up late to their own meeting just to give a wholly unprepared and unpracticed presentation about a topic they clearly aren't an expert in.

Imagine the first slide starts with, "Wikipedia says..."

I have coworkers who use GenAI for code and documents. Reviewing their work feels like someone asking me to do their work for them.

A lot of the feedback I give is pretty obvious. But since they didn't create the material, they don't feel shame in its inadequacy -- or pride in its improvement.

I'm emotionally bracing for clips of my city to be in the background of every video essay for the next five years.

Whoa, is there a local article covering that? That's a really interesting fact I'd love to send to some friends/family.

A belated but hearty welcome to Minneapolis! I wish we could have offered you safer times.

But I'm proud to call you one of us!

I've said similar to those I know from outside Minneapolis. The two biggest things we learned from 2020:

1) We are on our own. No one is coming to save us.

2) Everyone else comes here to co-opt our strife.

We are fighting for us. Our city is not someone else's pawn to sacrifice for a cause.

... are all your historical examples coming from before the era of cell phones and facial recognition? What do you think is in the comms that the feds don't already have access to?

Reminder for artists: don't get blinded by the "big number" for an art project. Remember to do the math.

$3,000 for a tarot card desk *sounds* great. But in reality you're only being paid $38.46 per artwork. And if each artwork takes 20 hours to make, you're getting paid $1.92/hr

Absolutely surreal to continue to hear about drawdowns and lowered temperatures and things calming down in Minneapolis when, as far as I can tell, literally nothing has changed on the ground

While the ICE Out protest was important and necessary, its impact explicitly pales against the work being done by community organizers to keep the active resistance operating.

Being "out in the streets" is the tip of the iceberg. It needs that massive, invisible foundation underneath it.

Formatting -- Group by time (more useful after you have like thirty more of these)

"
End of Turn:
* _Discard_ all Action cards at End of Turn.
* <other end of turn rules>

End of Round:
* _Discard_ all Character cards at End of Round.
* <other end of turn rules>
"

27.01.2026 21:30 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Formatting -- Break it up into individual thoughts

"
_Discard_ all Action cards at End of Turn.
_Discard_ all Character cards at End of Round.
"

27.01.2026 21:30 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Formatting -- Highlight the import bits and draw attention to the consistent terminology

"_Discard_ all Action cards at End of Turn. _Discard_ all Character cards at End of Round."

27.01.2026 21:30 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Consistency -- Change to active voice

"_Discard_ all action cards at end of turn. _Discard_ all character cards at end of round."

27.01.2026 21:30 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Consistency -- Don't change terminology between statements

"All action cards are discarded at end of turn. Discard all character cards at end of round."

27.01.2026 21:30 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Facts -- State the simplest version of the facts.

"All action cards are discarded at end of turn. Remove all character cards after a round."

Add visuals only if the fact is confusing. This one is pretty clear. No visual needed.

My personal approach is more akin to:

Facts - Visuals - Consistency - Formatting

An example in the thread!

A mantra in one of my screenwriting circles is CBV.

Clarity - Brevity - Voice

Often times we focus on Voice too early and that obfuscates the core message being communicated.

Be Clear, then edit for Brevity, then sprinkle in Voice.

When help arrives, it comes from around us. Not above us.

27.01.2026 19:06 β€” πŸ‘ 10    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

And, more recently, MN has explicitly learned that this help will NOT come from top down, governmental forces -- neither local nor federal institutions have protected us from the events of the past five years.

We're on our own. We know that. And so we help when help is needed.
