Drowntown, by Wolfboy from the album Drowntown/And Then We Drown

Anyway apropos of nothing I wrote this song which might be the first climate change cthulhu mythos breakup song where if you listen really close the singer's kids are in the big gang chorus at the end.

A Facebook post from the Palmerston North library notifying people that they're shutting the non fiction section due to high temperatures in the building.

Local library just shut one of its floors because the temp got so high. Good thing climate change is fake or I'd worry.

Boom! My latest album 'Darren Watson sings John Hiatt' just got a 4 star review in the March edition of US Jazz/Blues magazine, Downbeat.

Thanks to everyone around the world who supports what I do, buying and playing my music, and coming to shows.

I'm not done just yet!

(The novel is also great imo, it just fleshes out its world in a way that works in a long-form book but would completely bend a movie out of shape).

Yup, Hellraiser's another great example - it got sequels but it didn't need 'em.

One of my favourite horror movies adapted from a novel is Let The Right One In" and it's so successful because it cuts a loooooooooooooooooooot from the novel.

NZers (specifically Auckland): What are the options for a 16YO who is adamant they are running away from home?

I don't know this world at all. Youth shelters? Can they offer a same-day intake?

I'm Googling my butt off, but if you have firsthand knowledge please reply or DM me.

I think the short story->movie pipeline is a really important part of it. A short story is way easier to make into a self-contained movie than a novel. (And you need the short stories to be viable for that to happen).

Opposition finds change to school lunch scheme's name hard to swallow A free school lunches programme rebrand has dropped the reo Māori name Ka Ora Ka Ako, a move David Seymour says is "delivering real value".

Green MP Teanau Tuiono said it was "the opposite of virtue signalling".

"I'm going to call it toxic signalling to their base... that's going to bring out a particular contingent of people that think that way… It's anti-Māori, it's racist and in many ways pathetic."

IIRC Kindred can also spend a blood to make dead bodily subsystems work for a scene, so you know, terrible terrible things.

When she deleted that image to make way for a text box she discovered the date for the year before was under it, also imported as an image. And the year before that. And the one before that, for (iirc) almost a decade. 2/2

When the missus took a job in a place that will remain nameless, she went to edit a Publisher file for an annual event invite. To her surprise, she couldn't edit the date for the event because the number was an *image*. 1/2

I'd settle for media responding to the current govt saying the last wrecked the country with "but did they though?" even

Yup, it's a historically porous category defined only in opposition to non-white groups, and there is little cultural continuity between populations considered "white" on the global level. There's a fair bit within the anglosphere, but "white" also includes a bunch of non-anglophones.

Alt text: a graph showing a massive spike in anti-trans articles per 30 days.

The x axis starts in 2012, most of the spike is just in the last decade

The spike really starts to kick in around 2017 or so, corresponding almost *perfectly* with powerful sexual predators feeling threatened by MeToo.

Which is not to say "white people have no culture" - their culture just doesn't come from their racial identity in the way that black culture or ethnic culture does, it either comes from their country or (if it's foundationally racist) it comes from a reaction to someone else's culture.

12.02.2026 21:40 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

He can't define "white culture" for the same reason "western chauvinists" can't define "the west" - it's a fake idea that doesn't exist.

The next stretch goal is @fromthemorgue.bsky.social, who will be looking into the comics scene of Doskvol in '68. Very excited for it.

morgue is a pillar of the #kiwirpg community, an amazing game designer, AND the designer of a|state (amongst many other things) from which large parts of B68 come!

Ran into Billy Connolly on the street in Dunedin and he asked me directions to the Octagon (which was a short block away, literally within eyesight at the time).

Government wants to bypass fast-track process for proposed liquefied natural gas terminal A proposed LNG terminal will bypass even the fast-track process in order to be built in time.

This LNG terminal is such a bad idea that the government literally don't want their own Bad Idea Speeding Up system to look at it www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...
