A Facebook post from the Palmerston North library notifying people that they're shutting the non fiction section due to high temperatures in the building.

Local library just shut one of its floors because the temp got so high. Good thing climate change is fake or I'd worry.

I think the short story->movie pipeline is a really important part of it. A short story is way easier to make into a self-contained movie than a novel. (And you need the short stories to be viable for that to happen).

Yup, it's a historically porous category defined only in opposition to non-white groups, and there is little cultural continuity between populations considered "white" on the global level. There's a fair bit within the anglosphere, but "white" also includes a bunch of non-anglophones.

The spike really starts to kick in around 2017 or so, corresponding almost *perfectly* with powerful sexual predators feeling threatened by MeToo.

Which is not to say "white people have no culture" - their culture just doesn't come from their racial identity in the way that black culture or ethnic culture does, it either comes from their country or (if it's foundationally racist) it comes from a reaction to someone else's culture.

He can't define "white culture" for the same reason "western chauvinists" can't define "the west" - it's a fake idea that doesn't exist.
