You've already conceded the right to self-defense, you're just broadening the definitions of 'self' and 'defense' to cover the violence you want to do.

The pepper spray is for actual self-defense. I've carried it for years without using it once, and I won't stop carrying it now out of concern for ICE. They're using tear gas, which is far worse, and kinetic weapons, which I will not have.

It is slowing them down. We shut down Alligator Alcatraz, we stopped deportations to El Salvador and we're stopping them to Ghana. We're forcing them to stop operating in Chicago.

I understand these victories aren't satisfying, but satisfaction isn't the point of any of this.

I'm carrying a whistle, pepper spray and a camera. Nonviolent resistance isn't cowardice.

The count so far this year is 23 deaths including suicide. In an average year there are 6-10 deaths; in 2020 there were 21 and the record this century is 34 in 2005.

But assaults, injuries and due process violations are soaring, as we can all see. Who should we kill to stop that trend?

Enough for what? Who are you saying we should kill? If we did, how would that stop them? They'd be shooting us in the streets. So we keep going until we've killed half the country? We kill anyone who speaks out against it?

What you're lusting for is not self-defense.

Reprisals can only happen after the offense, and killing is not a legitimate 'reprisal' for anything short of killing. You're advocating preemptive violence- just like the fascists are.

The Nazis we executed killed people by the hundreds and thousands. We killed them *after* they committed mass murder. You apparently want to kill people before they *might* commit mass murder, which is not how justice or morality works.

Jesus. Sure, executing them would have kept them from joining ICE this year. And executing undocumented immigrants would save ICE the trouble and expense of deportation. Execution can also prevent divorce, teen pregnancy and all forms of cancer. What are we even talking about here?

People have no self-awareness. I agree and it needs to be said more often: there are people out there using progressive values as a permission structure.

Responsible for what you *can* do. There's a tendency to suggest people who benefit be responsible for things that are completely outside of their control, and that engenders much of the same resentment as guilt.
