It is kind of funny that there's this 5 star national golf destination and in the middle of it all is a giant toilet factory.

04.08.2025 03:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It was pretty obvious that doing buy-out packages of 100s of thousands of people and paying them a few months severance versus putting them on paid admin leave for a few months before termination were substantively the same, but the latter cooked the jobs books.
04.08.2025 03:47 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Mark Zandi @Markzandi Β· 8h The economy is on the precipice of recession. Thatβs the clear takeaway from last weekβs economic data dump. Consumer spending has flatlined, construction and manufacturing are contracting, and employment is set to fall. And with inflation on the rise, it is tough for the Fed to come to the rescue. Unemployment remains low, but thatβs only because labor force growth has gone sideways. The foreign-born workforce is shrinking, and labor force participation is declining. Telling is the economy-wide hiring freeze, particularly for recent graduates, and the decline in hours worked. Mark Zandi @Markzandi Β· 8h Itβs no mystery why the economy is struggling; blame increasing U.S. tariffs and highly restrictive immigration policy. The tariffs are cutting increasingly deeply into the profits of American companies and the purchasing power of American households. Fewer immigrant workers means a smaller economy.
Moody's chief economist Mark Zandi says:
- We are headed for a recession
-The BLS data is totally reliable- for now
-The revisions are due to delayed reporting of DOGE govt layoffs
-Higher tariffs are dragging down the economy

The state forests are kind of a neat recreational design. The logging companies build lots of paths/logging roads to access the tracts they are clearing, which then convert easily to hiking, biking, xc skiing, snowmobile, etc. The state takes the logging revenues and re-invests in park amenities.
04.08.2025 02:41 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I don't think an hour long, professionally-made, commercial free program on, say, Northern Door County or 1920s Milwaukee history pencils without subsidies.
04.08.2025 02:16 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I get how this happened (the timber companies sold off the choice land for lake recreation and farming and then went bankrupt and got foreclosed on the rest of their holdings) but it's still kind of funny how deranged these parks/forests are.
