Also, refusing to retire robs the party of its future by undermining efforts to develop younger members for leadership. It is a selfish and egotistical act of political cannibalism that hurts us all.
It simply is not ageist to say that you don't get to be in charge forever.

Setting aside the inevitable cognitive decline & rapidly increasing likelihood of major illness that come with old age, there are *still* good reasons to set an age limit. Specifically, that each generation deserves the chance to affect policy that they will live under for decades.

I get that this is a fraught topic & that ppl may say insensitive things, often out of frustration w the refusal to acknowledge just how much decisions to not retire have cost us. But treating virtually any discussion of age as ageism is obtuse, unserious, & dangerous.
