Yesod Fund | Learn, Support, Make a Difference Support those in need in the Twin Cities with the Yesod Fund. Providing direct aid for housing, food, and emergencies, fostering community stability and resilience.

The Yesod Mutual Aid Fund organized by Shir Tikvah raised $150,000 for emergency housing and food costs for families in Minnesota, and the fund drained in hours. They can’t keep up with demand, but they are helping families directly.

If you can, please help at www.yesodfund.org

I’m now ready to face some under-the-breath muttering from a flushed face dude in a company polo shirt at the airport bar.

Said it before but I will gladly give anyone a walking tour of Longfellow this summer. Lots of tacos, books at Moon Palace, beers at Arbeiter and/or cocktails at Lynette or Hi-Lo, a little trek through the woods down to the Mississippi.

Would gladly go on any other informal walking tours of MSP!

At my MN precinct caucus tonight, a resolution calling on ICE to be more professional & follow the law got all Nays, but an "Abolish ICE" resolution got a unified resounding "AYE".

Federal agents at powderhorn park

Federal agents at powderhorn park

This morning, federal agents staged at the Powderhorn Park Recreation Center lot and began to throw chemical irritants at observers. They also kidnapped an observer. Our parks are meant for our children, youth, and neighbors. They should never be militarized zones meant to separate families. 1/

Hey all, I feel compelled to share my recent experiences as a Minneapolis resident. This weekend, my family gathered with our South Minneapolis block in candlelight vigil for another resident killed by ICE agents in Minneapolis. On Friday, my children's schools were closed, and we gathered with neighbors to put together craft kits for kids too scared to go outside right now. A neighbor teaches at a school where attendance has dropped by 40% in the past week. Earlier in the week, one of the restaurants around the corner from my house asked for help from neighbors to sit in the restaurant as they closed, because the staff, who are all here legally, are afraid to walk to their cars at the end of their shift. The parents in my kid's daycare are collecting medical supplies for pop-up free clinics because people are afraid to go to the hospital. The amount of mutual aid being coordinated by people just trying to do their day jobs and raise families is staggering.

There is immense fear and sadness in the Twin Cities right now. Much of the coverage I've seen paints this as confrontations between ICE agents and protesters. But my reality has been that these agents descend into our neighborhoods and target, I'll just say it, non-white residents and demand to see identification. ICE treats observers with extreme aggression, which you've likely seen at this point. These observers are just folks in the neighborhood. I don't say this lightly that it feels like an occupation.

This is not a post to discuss or argue the merits of immigration enforcement in America. This is to say that a region of this country is in pain, and it is real. If you're outside of Minnesota and interested in action, this is a good list of ways to help:

Like much love to our friends outside MN and thank you for cheering us on, but this is far from over, unfortunately. And when it calms down here, it will go somewhere else and we'll count on you to protect your neighbors. I know you will. I'll send snacks and guides.

One thing that irks me: people keep calling the folks on the streets in Minneapolis protestors. They are not generally there to protest, they are there to observe and document. This is the product of organizing and mutual aid. It is telling that these acts of citizenship are seen as protest!

This is what happened in our neighborhood yesterday. ICE snatched a human being off of our streets, roughed them up badly, and then pepper sprayed legal observers as they documented it all. This is a daily occurrence happening all throughout Minnesota right now.
