After 4 hours the police moved in, selecting an individual placard holder and, in groups of 12 or more, surrounding and arresting them. All 14 current and retired health professionals were arrested in turn, including Dr Fiona Godlee, previously Editor of the @bmj.com

Health workers sat in solidarity with Gazan health workers, 1400 of whom have been killed since the current crisis began. They sat behind a banner which read “Medical Duty > Terror law” citing the Geneva Conventions and UN Security Council Resolution 2286.

• Systematic targeting of health infrastructure
• Mass civilian casualties
• Patterns consistent with genocide

8🧵Gaza’s health infrastructure is now in ruins. Not a single hospital remains fully functional. Physicians operate in conditions with no anesthesia or basic supplies. This constitutes medical apartheid: the intentional destruction and denial of health care.

7🧵Such attacks contravene both Article 4 of the Geneva Conventions and UNSC Resolution 2286, which unequivocally protect health workers and institutions during conflict.

6🧵Health workers have been forcibly evacuated under threat of death, required to abandon premature babies, detained without trial with allegations of torture, and even killed in custody. These are not isolated incidents; they represent a pattern of systematic persecution.

5🧵In Gaza, these legal and ethical protections have been systematically violated. To date, over 1,400 health workers have been killed, hospitals have been destroyed, and ambulance workers have been targeted and killed while responding to emergencies.
