Yeah. If that's not his role on the team, and he's not talking about the same item, I think it's fine to curtail that convo to stay on task. Maybe could have just let him finish when he clearly wasn't paying attention to you, but not off base to try to bring it back around.

Not at all. Less rude that interrupting, even if it's a tirade. Also, I'd guess he was off topic, and that can derail a meeting quickly. From a meeting management point, I don't think it's "rude" to redirect the conversation.
