...that was an abuser right there. Especially given how they tried to talk me in circles and trick me into saying if they did X, Y, or Z, they could have the records.
This is why HIPAA and medical privacy are so important.

I'm sure some of these seem far-fetched. When I was doing release of records for a hospital, we semi-regularly had people try to get others' records. Including a parent whose adult child hadn't contacted them in 10 years and who didn't know where that child was. I would bet money...

But what it comes down to is this: it's YOUR private medical information. No one should get to share it with anyone except you. I don't care if you were seen for an ingrown toenail or a sore throat--that's no one's business but yours.
5/
8. Simply knowing what facility a person is having a procedure in could allow someone to track them down (think childbirth).
9. Authorities could use your info against you.
4/
6. You could be humiliated or embarrassed among your family, peers, or colleagues.
7. You could have to listen to all sorts of unsolicited and unwanted advice from people who aren't your medical providers.
3/
4. A teen who gets an abortion or receives contraception could be kicked out of their home or even harmed or killed by their parents or guardians.
5. A stalker/abuser could use medical records to get their victim's address and other contact information.
2/
Some people don't understand why every last detail of private medical information should stay private. So here are some reasons.
1. Your employer could fire you because of a condition you have.
2. You could be denied life insurance.
3. You could be socially ostracized (HIV anyone?).

SIMON: What? SHAPIRO: ...Or saying... SIMON: You imagine that? SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over. SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level. SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this. SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

Hopefully so! I do have some of the factors that can make it harder for treatment to work, but that's balanced by the fact that this is basically the only neurological disorder that is capable of going into full remission!
