I'm curious how she would say it! 1 and .5 thirds or 1 and a half-third. (Curious mainly how her knowledge of and evident comfort w/ decimals ties into her knowledge of fractions. Also, if she sees it as half of a third, then might be more amenable to thinking of it as a sixth.)

Not 100% sure but I think it derives from the triangle/expressing the angles as complements.

The model is flawed from the moment the student needs to pose a question. Students who struggle rarely even know what to ask.
