What I don't want is a simple "minimize distance between specific preselected point on curve and specific datapoint": I am trying to optimize the curve to simultaneously have near arc length parametrization and I don't a priori know the optimal correct parameter. The data isn't evenly spaced.

@keenancrane.bsky.social Hi, I was wondering: Do you have some geometric magic energy that preferentially:
1. gets a curve to be close to (ideally passes through) an ordered set of data points
2. while avoiding itself
Your works on tangent point energies seems related but I'm unsure about part 1

I can actually overcome the greys by blurring my vision for a bit but the yellow/blue illusion is completely impossible. Like, it's *so* deeply obviously different colors and nothing I can do changes that.

Screenshot from Steven Universe Season 4 Episode 9: Three Gems and a Baby.
Baby Steven is held by his dad Greg and surrounded by the three remaining Crystal Gems, Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl, all sitting in Greg's van, protected from the snowy winter cold.
Greg is enshrouded in a blue blanket.

This shot is a pretty clear reference to the Nativity scene:
Greg is Mary (who is often shown enshrouded in blue)
Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl are the three Kings or perhaps the shepherds. Their symbol is a star and to them, Rose (now Steven) is who they follow.
Steven who is and isn't his mom and is and isn't Pink Diamond, is Baby Jesus who is not the father nor the ghost and yet all three are God.
The Van is the manger.

Earlier in the episode the three Gems brought this half-human infant three gifts that are as about as useful to him at the time as myrrh, gold, and frankincense would have been to a newborn Jesus.

The EU Citizen's Initiative asking for a ban to Conversion Therapy is a success with eight of seven needed EU states passing the threshold and over a million signatures just hours ahead of the deadline.

The passing states in green are France, Spain, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, Netherlands, Germany, and Slovenia. The states marked in blue are all the other EU member nations.

it'd also be nice to have graphs that are self-normalizing, by simply dividing the graphs by the leftmost datapoint. That way you get to see more clearly across various categories how they might have changed in that time interval

@edavis.dev do you think a few more charts could be added to your bskycharts?
I'd like to see variants that try to separate the periodic (time of day, week, year, month) and nonperiodic effects as well as logarithmic graphs.
The ability to switch off parts would also be good. English is too dominant

Selection of interests. - All buttons are either selected or not selected. It's not entirely clear to me.
Currently they all are light with dark text, otherwise they are dark with light text, but there are two different interpretations to me:
- if it's supposed to represent physical buttons, then I'd assume dark means selected as it's like pushing in a button and it therefore being somewhat in the shade
- if it's supposed to represent lit surfaces, then I'd assume like means selected

When the buttons are light, the corresponding interests show up in Your Interests. When they are dark, they are unlisted. Therefore, "light" means selected. Confusingly, they are, however, listed as dark under "Your interests".

I have now determined, that light means selected and dark means not selected. Because if it's light, like in this first screenshot, then it shows up here (second screenshot), notably as dark, whereas if the button is dark, it doesn't show up under Your Interests at all. Confusing!

@support.bsky.team I'm a bit confused here: Does this currently mean the buttons are all selected or none of them are? I find the design a bit ambiguous.

Bluesky stats as of 2025-04-05 showing various operations across a year (bottom right), month (bottom left), week (top right), and day (top left) Some notable trends:

- the rate of likes has remained fairly stable since like December '24 although around January there was a spike
- in the last week there is a slightly elevated number of likes, albeit not by much
- for the past month, for the most part, the number of posts and the number of follows has been even, but since like two days, the number of follows is shooting up, getting closer to the significantly greater number of likes.

PLC operations *roughly* show new signups (but also contains operations like changing your handle and a few other things)
The months chart reveals that there is a pretty sizeable wave of new plc operations (likely new signups) in the last week.

After several ever larger waves of signups, this has mostly steadily declined since roughly early February '24, but in the last couple of days there has been a clear though subtle reversal, increasing the number of culumative active users.

it's not very difficult to fabricate a tweet - among the massive backlog of ridiculous nonsense he tweeted about, there is no evidence that this is one of them (search points to nothing, not even on archival sites to look for deleted stuff, and it's not been mentioned earlier than like 2018)

It's honestly shocking just how fast nature can bounce back if we just let it. I imagined restoration efforts would take decades if not centuries to really show results but nope, typically a single year worth of efforts can do wonders.
Takes ages to be "fully" restored, but partial is almost instant
