games industry layoffs as of feb 11

As of today, Feb 11. I know of so many games industry layoffs in 2026 that it impacts over 50% as many people that i know of than i know who were impacted in the entirety of 2025. Its going to be a long year.

Remember when Fortnite was a PvE game and they kept it around even though it wasn't doing great and at some point someone said I dunno, let's try it as a battle royale?

Imagine if Epic had just laid the team off after like four days.

Games need to be built differently. If every game lives or dies by its day-one, there is no future, period -- live games demand new production plans, and your first year needs runway/planning.

For employees -- not content. Because you need those to make stuff. Infuriating and sad. Love to the team.

If only there was an allegory for how we shouldn't abuse technology to make things ill-advisedly, like bringing back things from the past, but not quite correctly.
