A cartoon showing a man between a white construction worker and a black man. He points to the black man and says "Careful mate ... that foreigner wants your cookie" The man in the middle has a plate full of cookies; the construction worker has one cookie; the black man has no cookies.
I'm pro-union because I think workers should organize to balance the power that business owners have in various negotiations. It's true that unions have been weakened, but it's not because of multiculturalism. I would argue, it's because people seek to exploit divisions for their material interests.

These Ray Carney novels by Colson Whitehead are so unbelievably excellent. They're like classic gritty detective stories but about a furniture store owner in Harlem in the 60s-70s. Pepper is one of the great all-time badass characters of the genre. Can't wait for the 80s!

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

Marc Lobliner post on X: "Why the hell are we giving food stamps to 40 million people?
Does anyone work anymore?"
SNAP isn't about "people who don't work." It's about people who don't get paid enough to live.
Of the 40 or so million people who rely on food stamps:
* Two-thirds are children, seniors, or disabled
* Most working-age adults who receive SNAP are employedβbut in jobs that pay poverty wages

Jack Ciattarelli Denies Birthright Citizenship, Backs Trumpβs ICE Deportation Raids
The GOP gubernatorial candidate would welcome Trump's chaos to New Jersey

Jack Ciattarelli speaks proudly about his immigrant roots and his family's American Dream here in New Jersey.
But at a church in Elizabeth, he told children of immigrants that their birthright citizenship, their very claim to that same American Dream, isn't valid.
