So much to unpack. Happy to recommend more resources if that's ever a rabbit hole you end up falling into!

Bitcoin is currently one of the most insane, pie-in-the-sky, crazy cool, open, collaborative, transparent human rights software project in the world. Something we should all be rooting for!

The Little Bitcoin Book: Why Bitcoin Matters for Your Freedom, Finances, and Future

Alex is one of the authors on what is likely the best 100-page intro to bitcoin as a collective, open, unstoppable human freedom project called "The Little Bitcoin Book". Great read for curious minds!

He also wrote "Check Your Financial Privilege", a perhaps more complete treatment of the topic.

Alex Gladstein: Bitcoin is the Most Powerful Human Rights Tech of the 21st Century
YouTube video by Bitcoin Policy Institute Alex Gladstein: Bitcoin is the Most Powerful Human Rights Tech of the 21st Century

is hard to grasp on first contact (like explaining eyeglasses to someone with a 20/20 vision).

A great place to start is this 20m video by Alex Gladstein (CSO, Human Rights Foundation). He addresses this question head on: What does bitcoin do, and why should we care? www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4gy...

Bitcoin is and has always been a human rights project, which I see is something you care about as much as me (and most cypherpunks). For so many folks in high-income countries, the separation of money and state is fairly strong and stable (at least more or less?), and hence the value of bitcoin 2/4

Hey Annie! I hope I can provide the beginning of an answer (or at least show an entry point to the rabbit hole?)

The key part of the question by Doug is the misunderstanding about what bitcoin does and why it's useful for so many people around the world ("without providing anything productive") 1/4
