Read the article again, it's a little confusingly worded. They knowingly had someone from DHS in that group. DHS is now working on mass deportations, which is how ICE found out. The problem isn't with signal, the problem is that they were sharing law enforcement information to a group chat.

Short term, it benefits them as it'll push up the price of gas. If this becomes an extended war, this is not great for them, and they have a lot of reasons to not get directly involved (like their ongoing war with Ukraine).
