I do generally agree with Waid's take on Doom as the world's most brilliant mind wrapped in the world's most fragile ego. North's Doom is very reminiscent of Cates similarly wanky Thanos Wins arc -- in which everything likable about the character is elevated to its most braggadocious, shit tallking

If it had lived up to the premise of what it's like to like to live under fascism in a superhero universe, it would have been better. But it's been 4 straight issues of Doom lacking any level of complexity and just rolling past every threat

Agreed. It's a visually great book that had a wonderful premise that quickly decided that allegory was less important than making perhaps the most boring take on Doom of the last 20 years

Or develops an insight into Doom's character. Even the storyline of "uber powerful sociopath only has one life tethering him to sanity" has been done to death in the last decade! It's in everything from John Wick to well, Avengers: Infinity War.

So, I thought this was gonna be a kind of classic 4D chess realization of his own insecurities as a force advancing fascism. But it's clear that North, like a lot of writers, doesn't get that what makes Doom cool isn't that he wins, but that he has to earn it. Nothing here explores a philosophy
