Extreme, and everything hatable about the character is commensurately magnified
20.10.2025 03:17 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I do generally agree with Waid's take on Doom as the world's most brilliant mind wrapped in the world's most fragile ego. North's Doom is very reminiscent of Cates similarly wanky Thanos Wins arc -- in which everything likable about the character is elevated to its most braggadocious, shit tallking
20.10.2025 03:16 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0It's a Castlevania subweapon, for sure!
20.10.2025 02:56 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0This is what was meant when they said the revolution would not be televised.
19.10.2025 18:03 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Brock Lesnar: as exciting as 2010s Cena, as good for his fellow workers as 80s Hogan, and as good on the mic as late 90s Goldberg. Surely this will lead to some inspired matches.
19.10.2025 17:56 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0"But Homelander is so strong, what do you mean he's the bad guy?"
19.10.2025 04:21 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0How about women with musket and bardiche?
19.10.2025 03:51 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The P-90 and the SPAS-12 are in that unique category of cultural artifact that somehow alway seem futuristic, no matter how far removed we are from development.
18.10.2025 19:06 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Soft authoritarianism leads to hard authoritarianism, is the basic gist of the whole prequel series.

18.10.2025 16:36 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yeah, we have a whole f------ book of the Bible about what it's like to be an immigrant seeking opportunity and safety, a book that American Christians conveniently ignore when it suits them.
It's the second book of the Bible, for Pete's sake!
You're a librarian. These are your people
18.10.2025 16:01 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I suppose it depends on if you count the Hiro-Kala Hulk stuff as "a space event."
18.10.2025 15:52 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I'm basic. Gimme a tortie cat, a fox, or a floating crystal with a British accent.
18.10.2025 15:51 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Love the Inhumans, somehow managing to be worse than the X-Men and the Eternals at the same time.
Telling that the Inhumans followed up Annihilation and Conquest with perhaps the most annoying space event -- War of Kings, in which they try and convince us that the 3rd Summers Brother is relevant.
He wasn't useful to them anymore
18.10.2025 15:09 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I got my own brain callin' me out, don't need to give it any help!
18.10.2025 02:31 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Man, when you're a dude who does not conform, women go out of their way to tell you that you don't conform. Some get really pissed when you shrug and do you.
Like, come on, we both know I'm never gonna out crew cut the normies. Let me be a weird little goblin or let me alone. I don't need a judge
I'm sure this will somehow turn into a "Doom was seeking power to stop the Ultimate Incursion" justification, but it's all so silly. Doom as an unstoppable juggernaut is never and has never been interesting
18.10.2025 00:34 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0If it had lived up to the premise of what it's like to like to live under fascism in a superhero universe, it would have been better. But it's been 4 straight issues of Doom lacking any level of complexity and just rolling past every threat
17.10.2025 23:51 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0She's a nerd, we don't do nerds as president. We have a massive lack of respect for intellectuals in this country, and for skill in general.
17.10.2025 05:20 โ ๐ 10 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Agreed. It's a visually great book that had a wonderful premise that quickly decided that allegory was less important than making perhaps the most boring take on Doom of the last 20 years
16.10.2025 20:41 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Glad you enjoyed it. If you're a Doom fan I can see why folks would like it.
I felt it started strong and then became boring by issue 4.
It took a few tries, but it did eventually guess the Icon of Cthulhu

16.10.2025 17:28 โ ๐ 18 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Just because it's a worse version of every other Doom story doesn't mean it lacks merit... As kindling
16.10.2025 04:01 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0How'd that pan out?
16.10.2025 04:00 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Or develops an insight into Doom's character. Even the storyline of "uber powerful sociopath only has one life tethering him to sanity" has been done to death in the last decade! It's in everything from John Wick to well, Avengers: Infinity War.
16.10.2025 03:40 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0So, I thought this was gonna be a kind of classic 4D chess realization of his own insecurities as a force advancing fascism. But it's clear that North, like a lot of writers, doesn't get that what makes Doom cool isn't that he wins, but that he has to earn it. Nothing here explores a philosophy
16.10.2025 03:38 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I haven't been following, so I'll refrain from comment, but I have heard the ideas are compelling there
