Our kids are in college, and they still need to justify *any* spending on the cards that come from our funds. They can spend whatever they want on cards that come from their bank accounts (and the same was true when they were in grade school).

I would expect that competition and capitalism would lead to the latter. One company could sit back and produce the same with fewer workers, but if another company used more workers and innovated faster, the first company would get left behind.

At my company, probably 1 out of 100 “good ideas” get implemented. If AI made me 100x more productive, that could mean doing the same work with 1/100 the # of engineers, or it could mean that our company would innovate 100x faster.

As a software engineer with 30+ years experience, I can say that the hype is true wrt software. AI is a huge productivity enhancer now, and will only get better. What that means for tech jobs is unclear to me long term. Faster productivity may just mean better software, not fewer workers.

Touting stock market records as a big accomplishment is so stupid. Stocks go up on average, which means they are constantly hitting highs. Net returns are more relevant, and returns under Trump have been decent, but no better than Biden and I believe much lower than Obama.

They make it so hard to tell the difference between outright stupidity and willful ignorance (I think it is often a combination of both).

Its on the same level as all the morons saying “it was cold today, so clearly that shows that global warming is a hoax”.

I’m not sure how they compute the jobs numbers, but would illegals even be counted in the numbers? If they are illegal, aren’t they “under the table”?

Growing up in northern Canada, everyone I knew did this. I was smart enough to just do the tip at the start, but then stupid enough to see what would happen with more contact. Paid for that one!

It sounds like it is technically not a vaccine, but that it can do the job of one. I’m not sure how long “long lasting” is, but if you can get a shot once a year that gives high protection against all forms of influenza, that would be very powerful.

For me it has nothing to do with streaming. When I got a large flat screen TV with a great sound system, it became much more enjoyable to watch at home (even when I was using DVDs). I can sit on my sofa with a glass of wine, pause or rewind when I want, and add subtitles if I want them.

BTW … one of my favorite cocktails is called “La Viáa” from the book by the NY bar Death & Co. It is equal measures of rye/bourbon, Nonino amaro, and sherry (Lustau East India) with a few drops of bitters. Recipe calls for orange bitters, but I prefer Fee Bros whisky barrel aged).

Assuming that there is proof of illegal orders being given, and Trump pardons him, is there any way to pursue justice? I really have trouble believing that the US would hand over a senior politician to the Hague.

I’m guessing that this is something that Trump can just pardon him for? I’m sure there will be a ton of his cabinet receiving pardons before the end of the term. The pardon power seriously needs to be revisited. Like maybe Congress should be able to override pardons or something.

While not quite a must have, CarPlay is pretty close. Rivian seems like it is making nice cars, but this makes them far less attractive to me. Seems like my next car will probably be Korean.
