I haven't had much opportunity to paint lately, so I was delighted to find the time and energy (just) to follow the Liesl's Artistic Studio tutorial for this lovely wreath last night.

In my antiperfectionism journey I've noticed that I am fine with work I'm doing for myself, for practice and enjoyment, but still very hung up on perfectionism when it comes to making cards and pictures for others. I guess that's the next hurdle.

Woman in sweats and baseball cap - a frustrated sports coach - yells into the air and paces in front of a row of three men who look dejected and miserable
If someone says they love you but treats you really badly, sometimes you train yourself into believing that this is just what you deserve.
But you deserve much better.
And they should UP THEIR GAME!

This sounds very much up Child 1's street. If it's as accessible as you say, I might even understand some of it.

A watercolour painting of a red Maccaw in a jungle scene, with a pink background, monstera and banana leaves and assorted colourful leaves and petals.
I'm not great at sticking with new habits and things I don't have some natural talent for. I've always been told I'm terrible at drawing. A little over a month ago I started following a 'learn to watercolour over 30 days' book and today I completed the final painting. I am SO proud and happy.

Thank you. I went with finishing off a couple of examples of each part of the painting so I got practice at each, but not finishing the whole thing. Everything today has gone wrong so I've just played at repeating the wrong bits to get some satisfaction and improvement.

... Bearing in mind that I neither want to lose motivation nor get hung up on perfectionism.

I've been trying to follow a structured guide on learning to watercolour. Now, the question is what I do when I know part way through a long tutorial that I've messed up? Do I finish it, learn from the mistake and move to the next piece? Do I start again? What's the most effective form of practice?
