Structural basis for agonist and heat activation of nociceptor TRPM3 - Nature Structural & Molecular Biology TRPM3 is an ion channel that helps the body sense heat and contributes to pain. The authors show that both heat and small chemical molecules switch it on through similar changes inside the protein.

The ability to sense heat protects the body from burns and injury. But how the body actually feels temperature has remained an elusive mystery.

99% of researchers applying for funding are wasting their time. It would be far, far more efficient to just assign research grants randomly rather than requiring detailed submissions and evaluation

Incredible by @odedrechavi.bsky.social...an AI-thingy that reviews your manuscript with a very high bar and takes no prisoners. But you can do this in your pajamas and no one gets to see it. Takes a while but once you get the results you'll know why: www.qedscience.com

Are these the happiest PhD students in the world? Brazil, Australia and Italy have the highest satisfaction scores in Natureโ€™s global 2025 PhD survey โ€” but are these nations really the best places to do a doctorate?

We asked 3,785 PhD students across 107 countries about their experiences. Where do you think the happiest doctoral candidates were?

THIS.
I already missed a study section where I review grants two weeks ago due to the shutdown and the study section that was slated to review my grant that will decide if I get to keep my lab open or not ... was supposed to meet this week. Neither is happening and that is destructive to science.

This image is figure 5 from the paper showing how hallucinogenic 5HT2AR agonism alters neurovascular coupling at local and global scales.

A study in Nature Neuroscience finds psychedelics disrupt the relationship between neuronal activity and blood flow in humans and mice. This suggests fMRI results under psychedelics may reflect vascular effects as much as neural ones and should be interpreted with caution. go.nature.com/47hqVPH ๐Ÿงช
