Don’t get me wrong, I’m all in on democracy. But I also don’t think Mao and Mussolini are fundamentally different. And neither is Trump.

But if you stack up the comparatively small sample size of “communist” (authoritarian) regimes against the the number of “democracies” in the world, I’m depressingly realizing the long arc of history bends towards Stalin, Trump, Hitler, Pol Pot, Mussolini, Netanyahu, Kim Jong-Un, MBS

I’m anti-authoritarian. I’m open to the idea that communism might have something to offer. I’m just tired of certain anti-communist tropes.

I’m confused by this entire framing. Neither the US nor Russia have ever been defined as third world. They’re literally the definitions of first and second world.
Second, US industrial capacity outstripped most European countries well before there was a USSR.

I don’t think the workers of Lagos and Quito and Tonga and Bordeaux and Boise are ever in alignment in a way that doesn’t also bring them into direct conflict.

But 1) industrialization will always be concentrated in particular areas
2) I don’t know much about him but from what I glean from his philosophy he was being extremely European-focused. I don’t think anything happens that erases official borders.

One thing I’m gonna call out here as I read through: I don’t think a global communist revolution will ever happen.

Ah, I was more being grumpy about someone suggesting NK is only in its position because of western sanction against communism, when it borders its two massive benefactors and while Cuba also exists within US strangle distance with less support.
