YouTube video by Senator Paula Simons It's time to make an X-it: Senator Simons questions the Canadian government's continued use of X

I had the opportunity to rise during Senate Question Period this week, to ask about the Canadian government's continued commitment to using X for official communications - and about their failure to use sites such as Bluesky and Mastodon. What do you think? #cdnpoli #Canada #Grok #X #Bluesky

Toronto’s climate plan calls for transit to be free to use by 2040.

Public transit routes that are free have a whole slew of benefits, including reduced policing costs, faster vehicles due to reduced loading times, and reduced violence against transit workers.

European Parliament Votes Overwhelmingly For "The Full Recognition Of Trans Women As Women" The resolution, though nonbinding, is a significant shot at those who seek to erode transgender rights on the continent.

In incredible news, the European Parliament has voted overwhelmingly for "The Full Recognition Of Trans Women As Women."

Even the center-right European People's Party voted for the declaration.

It will form a foundation for their position at the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

A collection of six ominous bird valentines set against a background of pink hearts. In the first one, a Canada Goose looks angry and hisses and the text says "Baby, I'll make you fall head over heels if you approach within 10m of my nest." In the second, an American white pelican opens its mouth to eat the reader and the text says "There are plenty of fish in the sea, but I want this one." In the third valentine, a Black Vulture looks suspiciously at the reader and the text says "I will love you until you die. And after that, I'll love you even more." A Southern Cassowary stands proudly against the heart-covered background. The text says "My wattles are red. My head is blue. My deadly reputation has been somewhat overblown, but I'd kill for you." In the fifth valentine, a Northern Giant-Petrel stands open-billed next to a large brown furry object, and the text says "Let's seal the deal by sharing a 3000 kg elephant seal carcass." In panel 6, a happy-looking Bearded Vulture holds a bone in its beak, and the text says "I love every part of you, especially your bones."

With headlines that the University of Alberta will "abandon race-based" admissions policies, remember that anti-EDI framing is designed to make it seem like the pre-EDI status quo is somehow 'neutral'. In reality, by abandoning sensible EDI policies, institutions are *doing* race-based admissions.

An investigation of which household objects conduct electricity.

Can cheese conduct electricity? Apparently so.

Me: You and cheese both conduct electricity. What do you two have in common?
Student: We are both thick
Me: Ah yes of course

Just FYI the moon is also a hellhole. Earth is the only place we can live. The dust on the moon is so fine it’s deadly and some Apollo astronauts were allergic to it. Also no air, just a total bummer for beings that need air.

Oh and before anyone says but the soil has components to make water…

Bruce Fanjoy:

Statement Regarding the Return to Office Policy
February 9*, 2026
On February 5th, 2026, the federal government announced an updated Return-to-Office
(RTO) policy for federal public servants. Today, I am calling upon the government to reconsider this policy for the following reasons:
1. The new RTO policy makes it harder to achieve the government's priorities of reducing the operating cost of government, improving affordability, and respecting the environment. Instead, it will cost both the government and citizens more and increase pollution.
2. There is little to no evidence that a one-size-fits-all RTO policy will improve productivity or service to Canadians.
3. The RTO policy makes it harder for public servants to balance work with other responsibilities.
I believe Canada is better served by a hybrid model that balances a mix of in-office and remote work. The right balance is flexible and depends on circumstances. Done well, a hybrid model reduces the cost of government and benefits workers and all Canadians.
To my constituents in Carleton, I hear you. I will continue to press for solutions that work for you and all Canadians.
Sincerely,
Bruce Fanjoy
Member of Parliament for Carleton
