COP30 overpromised, underdelivered, empowered distractions, backtracked on issues and once again gave big oil and big ag a free pass.

Unfortunately, the suspicions of climate scientists (here in Brazil and abroad) were confirmed again.

As I argue in The Language of Climate Politics: we are stuck not because climate politics are polarized, but because they’re UNIFIED (across the right and center-left) on the lie that we can keep using oil and gas but still deal with climate change anyway.

Here’s a good example of that discourse.

Federal "permitting reform" (e.g., The SPEED Act, HR 4776) is the Billionaire's version of climate action.

People, land and water, wildlife are little but: (1) Commodities for extraction; or (2) Barriers to wealth and power accumulation.

It's a giant grift.

A new E.U. service will investigate the role of warming in weather disasters.

Its findings could help insurers better gauge climate risks and help advocates hold polluters accountable for climate damages.

Drawing on the sociology of expertise, we show how they confront two forms of uncomfortable knowledge in biodiversity governance:

1️⃣ that three decades of efforts to “make biodiversity pay for itself” have largely failed, and

2️⃣ that biodiversity governance continues to fall short of its goals. 3/7

I appreciate this defense of BC’s north coast, and I hope for consistency.

But we don’t need to “unlock prosperity” there. It already provides prosperity for all of BC, Canada, and the planet.

We just need to leave it alone, monitor its health, and let it do what it’s already doing.
