BREAKING: Scientists are staging a βscience fairβ in the lobby of a Congressional building to tell elected officials about the critical knowledge the US will lose because their research grants have been canceled.

Are you from one of these states? Then we need your help to save American science!
The Senate Appropriations Committee will be marking up the President's Budget Request for science on Wednesday. People have been saying the proposed cuts "decimated" US science, but that's wrong: they are apocalyptic
People forget that checking racial boxes in the United States is first and foremost an exercise in resource distribution and not a moment to tell your diary how you feel about your family history
And it has been a project, a white supremacist project, to make people think itβs about individualism

Washington, D.C., has a population roughly equivalent to Alaska's.
And it has zero senators. If D.C. had senators, the GOP megablil bill would have failed today.
Instead, Murkowski got carve-outs and money for Alaska, and then voted to subject DC to the bill
I've seen some science folks react with relief that the current reconciliation bill doesn't cut NIH spending- of course this is a good thing. But we can't stand by and say this isn't our fight - there's a lot in here that will affect biomedical scientists and some really bad stuff for the country π§΅

27.06.2025 15:18 β π 225 π 39 π¬ 10 π 1Advice distilled from an NSF PO:
Apply for NSF funding this year. Because NSF's current policy is to forward-fund active projects (e.g. pay down their mortgage on the future years of funding), there are plausible budget scenarios where NSF has a LARGE budge to spend next fiscal year (on your grant)
The left better start figuring out how to weaponize today's decision rather than just (rightfully) criticizing it.
- Go back into Judge Kaczmaryk's court to dissolve all of his nationwide orders.
- Pass gun bans and insist any order applies only to plaintiffs.
The Justice Department has demanded that the president of the University of Virginia resign to help resolve a civil rights investigation into the schoolβs diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.

If you weren't angry enough already, here are the rates of non-competitive renewals through May.
4008 Non-competitive renewals were due to be funded in May.
The total funded was 99!
Some is due to terminations, but most is due to slow grant making due to DOGE review and other impediments.

Ending it would destroy a major STEM pipeline.
