Running, cycling, parkrun, active travel. Can often be persuaded to partake of chocolate.

Rounding out the weekend with a fab headtorch run up at #rutlandwater - a few runners out this evening making the most of a dry, calm evening. 4 (mostly!) progressive miles - really enjoyable run!

Making the most of a (brief) dry spell to get out for a walk. 4 miles with the OH and his Hypershell legs - makes such a difference!
Brief stop for hydration and nutrition advice at the Golden Pheasant in Etton...!! π

Son has made me a hot chocolate.
As he runs a coffee van business, I think he's still disappointed that I don't drink coffee. But I appreciate the care and effort he puts into making me some chocolatey goodness!

Marshaling at the lovely Play Close junior #parkrun in Melton Mowbray this morning. If the river rises any higher, we might have to swap our 'Caution Runners' signs for 'Caution Swimmers' ones...!!

I knew what pace I had to stick to (12.30 m/m, give or take) so it was a case of letting myself settle into it and not get carried away! I kind of ticked over/under a bit but it evened out - checked my watch quite often. Also, it's parkrun, not the Olympics so best endeavours is OK!!
08.02.2026 07:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It was my first time pacing after 13 years of parkrunning and volunteering - so I didn't rush into it!
I 'shadow paced' with a friend a couple of times, which really helped to take away the fear factor. Plus picking a time that I knew I could easily run and chat so I could support other people.
I'd avoided pacing for years as I was so worried about stuffing it up. But actually, it was completely fine. I wasn't bang on time, but only a few seconds out, and it was just lovely to help and support other runners.
Can't wait to do it again!!
Feeling a bit zen from the curling and now ready for some mayhem at the speed skating!

I like the fact it's this wonderful enigma. Like the sort of thing that comes from a mountain in Tibet (and not a municipal ice-rink in Fife...)
07.02.2026 15:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0All their hard work and determination - they were absolutely amazing and just dug so deep to keep going. Inspiration!
07.02.2026 15:19 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thank you! I really enjoyed it, and got such a buzz from seeing two people smash their targets. Still smiling! π
07.02.2026 13:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'd definitely do it again. I was really mindful of keeping a steady pace from the off! But actually, pacing something a bit slower than my usual pace meant I was easily able to chat, support and encourage others along, so it worked really well!
07.02.2026 13:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Get me! All togged up in my official #parkrun pacer bib and all!
Really enjoyed it - and helped two amazing ladies who worked super hard to come in under 39 minutes. Well done both of them!
A great start to my weekend β€οΈ

Thoroughly enjoyed watching the opening ceremony, and everything it represents about the best of the Olympics.
A reminder of the values of decency, kindness, endeavour and fairness. As most of us know it should be...
I shall definitely be watching. I can appreciate the skill involved, even if I don't know what they're doing!
06.02.2026 22:51 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm loving the curling.
Not a scoobie what's going on, but it's just a wonderful, mindful experience to watch the stones gliding on the ice.
I actually think I'd find it too stressful if I understood what was happening!
Urgh... Tonight's recovery run was a masterclass in 'just get the bloody thing done'.
Damp, cold, mud everywhere and I'd forgotten what a dreadful state our village paths and pavements are in.
Glad to get that one ticked off - now if you want me, I'll be eating chocolate and sat on the radiator!
Son and I tested this. We live in a village 2.5 miles from town, with stretch of 50mph road on the way.
He drove and arrived at town first, but then had to find parking and walk back to the pedestrian High Street. I e-biked straight to the High Street. We arrived at coffee stop at the same time β
Oops - anyone got a Euro for the meter??!
04.02.2026 21:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Ooh, curling - excellent!
I like curling, it's weirdly compelling, despite me not having the first clue what's going on...

This morning's #WednesdayMorningWander took me to #rutlandwater where incendiary sheep are apparently one of the risks I was less aware of...!
04.02.2026 13:30 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The ED of RW junior parkrun has set up a WhatsApp group for JPR volunteers which is proving really successful. I know it's still Meta, but you don't get the advertising shoved at you or dodgy AI slop. You have to opt in but could be one to suggest to the 5k team...
02.02.2026 23:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'd like to cut my online shopping more. I made it a resolution last year, but difficult as bricks and mortar shops get harder to find. Feels like a vicious circle!
02.02.2026 11:07 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just read the whole post. Some definite food for thought. Generally I'm on the lighter end of tech and social media consumption, but Strava and my kindle are important to me. I stick to a running watch rather than smartwatch. I still use my 20-year old ipod rather than stream....
02.02.2026 11:05 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I've never had either - so probably a case of never missing what I've never had.
The 5k app flags up cancellations on the event map. I also find the parkrunner app useful for cancellations. But yes, it's a bit annoying that so many things (running club included) are FB only.
I really liked this one - such super-friendly volunteers, and I loved the support from the neighbouring houses and flats!

Very chuffed to bump my V Index up to 7. That's one target for the year achieved already!
