I think it's worth underscoring EXACTLY how badly this is ALREADY going for them, and yet they INSIST on doubling down:

Pilot had a massive ad spread in a jp newspaper with "make AI jealous" and "write what AI can't touch" written on it

Anyway I think everyone should own a Pilot kakuno pen

As many have pointed out, Mamdani didn't stand apart from our trans brothers and sisters. He didn't play the "Gee, gosh, it sure is complicated," milquetoast moderate card. And he crushed.

The way forward is together, not over the bodies of our own.

Chainsaw Man was good on its own, but made for a pretty weird double feature.

What a perfect case study in how these LLMs collectively fail the basic information literacy guidelines our middle school librarian taught us in 2004.

This thread's clearly way sparser than my actual takeaway from Alan Wake I since I still have this in rotation.

I need more of my media to deploy expository ballads in place of canned needle-drops. Seranade me with your LORE.

I saw someone call Ai a Thneed and I can't stop thinking about it. It's a PERFECT analogy. The Thneed was an all-purpose tool that didn't do anything really useful. It was a fad that did major damage to the environment to make the Onceler a billionare. It left no real lasting impact, only damage.

A screenshot from the video game Pokémon Legends Z-A. A CGI character in a beret and a sweater stands in the foreground, looking across a Parisian courtyard. They - and we - see a tree with four cocoon-like creatures attached, two a yellow-orange and two a yellow-green. The latter coloration appears once in about every 4,000 Pokémon; seeing it twice within same group of four is exceedingly rare, even with the game's under-the-hood mechanics boosting the odds across multiple passes by the same tree.

The one-two punch of FLBS support and actually getting to keep my purchases off-subscription were absolute silver-bullet features for me.

Barely even annoyed about the marginally-smaller library; there's still oodles more than I could ever read on offer.

3 Screenshots from the movie "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" (2001): First, a close-up of Frodo Baggins with closed eyes lying down, illuminated by soft lighting, with the subtitle "Where am I?" "You are in the house of Elrond." Second, the same character slightly more awake, with the subtitle "And it is 10:00 in the morning on October 24th, if you want to know." Third, a wider shot showing an elderly figure seated beside the bed in an elaborately designed room, with intricate arches and soft natural lighting, with the subtitles "Gandalf!" "Yes, I'm here."

Pokémon has had shades of this before!

In Sword and Shield, your mother sneaks ten Pokéballs into your starting inventory. If you've caught something before you reach the first town, the capture tutorial becomes opt-out!

This also leaves later tutorials for new-to-SwSh mechanics intact.

Only got to put about half an hour into Pokémon Z-A last night, but so far it's asked me to:

- Endorse a business I've never been to on TikTok
- Install an unknown phone app from an anonymous sender
- Pick Tepig

What are we teaching the kids these days?

As is the case with so many things, they're holding onto good ideas! And then burying them under so much cover-your-legals and eye-grabbing short-sighted ideas that they lose their luster.

At least after all of these years I'm finally equipped to be a GAMER, allegedly

Either *only* early printings have this insert for a very time-limited download, or this'll be a wee downer for later buyers.

And I *love love love* having art and maps on the inside of the cover! They're completely illegible behind a Switch 2 box! Maybe this should've been the insert.

The spine of "Pokémon Legends Z-A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition". For scale against my hand, the total height of each line of title text is less than half of my fingernail. You absolutely will not be able to read this from five feet away looking at a bookshelf.

An image of the back of the box for Pokémon Legends Z-A, divided in half vertically between screenshots on the top screen overlaid with green-and-red text; and several paragraph-length boxes of disclaimer, warning, and informational text that is next-to-unreadable at this image's scale. Some of the images up top form a cool little zoetrope, which is kinda cool but ultimately kinda wastes space.

I get that it's marginally different than a native-to-Switch-2 game, but having "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" on the spine is garish and illegible on an already-anemic space.

Relatedly: Objectively good that the back-of-box text is bilingual! But damn do you need a magnifying glass.

The box for Pokémon Legends Z-A. Two human characters in the foreground, facing away from the camera, are looking on with a pair of small Pokémon as a third leaps into a street corner at night. Opposite them is a young woman and a larger Pokémon enveloped in an aura, with Pikachu nearby.

A block of text in English and Spanish, where the division between the two languages is only delineated by a single thin "pipe" character.
The text indicates that the box contains the Switch edition of the game and its Switch 2 upgrade pack. It overlays approximately the bottom sixth of the box art.

Weird off-the-cuff observations about the Pokémon Legends Z-A box, because it's a convergence of tiny things that irk me and are becoming increasingly common.

First off: A big ol' block of multilingual text (which is *not* line-separated by language) that feels like it belongs on the back?

RIP Drew Struzan - a man whose talent and imagination etched onto so many minds throughout the last 40+ years.

His art & posters are some of the first visuals I think of when I think about cinema - an invitation to watch these stories and worlds.

A massive loss 💔

The man illustrated on the poster looks unfortunately, goofily cross-eyed at a glance due to the oddly sharp and unfortunately-placed shine off his eyeglasses.
