Having been an editor of young and/or inexperienced writers for decades, I wholly agree with this.

The NFL has completely given up on young QB development. In the past, QBs took time to develop. But now, every team just wants to find their first-round draft pick that can hit the field in their rookie season already polished, when the reality is that very few rookie QBs have that ability.

If they're being bad to get a high QB draft pick, then that goes against the entire ethos of the Pittsburgh Steelers. I'd rather take a chance on a potentially worse coach who also has the potential to make the team better than be mired in complete mediocrity & stagnation as we have been for years.

Sure. And there are plenty of examples of teams firing their mediocre coach and getting much better in the next few seasons. I'm not basing my opinion on what happened with a completely different team a decade and a half ago, but on what my eyes see, y'know...now.

Tomlin has only ever had playoff success when he still had Bill Cowher's leftovers and coaching staff. That should tell you something. Others might be fine with years of mediocrity and stagnation. I'm not.

I didn't say midseason. But he can't stay past this one. It's time for him to go.

They're not going to get the rebuild they need if he's still the head coach, because his game planning and scheme philosophy never changes or evolves. And he refuses to relinquish any control to actually let the coordinators make decisions on their own.

Relax, all caps. He might work with another team but he's clearly not working for the Steelers anymore.

We don't know if Fields was a dud. He was never properly developed with the Bears, and then they still didn't develop him with the Steelers.
