Also, it was a real wakeup call to do that math. Time really does fly when you're having fun giving people extended time to prove they know something when the time it takes is irrelevant to the task at hand!

In over 15 years of teaching kids and adults, I've found most people will need some type of accommodation in their academic lives. Rich people are just more likely to ask for them.

My one quibble might be that NCLB likely did have impacts on civics and science scores because schools tended to de-emphasize those subjects to meet NCLB requirements, but even that is not enough to explain everything else!

The further dismantling of the Department of Education is bad not only for impeding its Congressionally-approved functions but because of what it signals about how little we actually value education in this country.

Districts are desperate to find tools that help kids and there are many snake oil salesmen out there, but it seems to me that if we're recognizing kindergartners don't need Chromebooks maybe we could also do a little digging about the efficacy of AI in the classroom first.

I find it very interesting that at the same time we're getting some recognition the ed tech is, in fact, not all that and a bag of chips, many districts are going all in on AI.
