Ahh. Just checked. I thought it was but it’s just there are lots of 2nd hand copies available.

That is still in print. :-)

Ahh. My perception of the current system is that a lot of things go wrong a lot of the time. Most of them are caught because of individuals going above and beyond, but that’s not infallible.

Is it in a jar? :-)

Isn’t the surprising thing that it’s not higher?

I want to move to Evil Wizards!

Ahh. Thank you. Always good to hear it directly.

The quote I heard was something like the director said β€œI want you to imagine what it’s like to come up behind someone and cut their throat” and he replied β€œI don’t have to imagine it”

Does anyone know of any geek/nerd events taking place anywhere in the UK next weekend - 31st Oct, 1st Nov, 2nd Nov.

I’ve found out about 3 I’ve not been aware of in just past couple of days and I don’t want the same to happen next weekend.

Please repost.

One hand bats. It’s Rounders.

I can’t think of one for Arbys, but we also have the Northman (Tim Hortons has a lot of stores in the US).

Yup. The Disneyfication of stories from that era and earlier takes so much of the original darkness out.

The Mother of Pan (Wendy), The Landlocked Sailor / The Strong Man (Popeyes), il Padre (Papa Johns),The Milkmaid (Dairy Queen)

I’ve been playing in an Amber RPG game a couple of times a year for 15+ years. I’m pretty sure my post game diaries are over 100K words now in total. I feel you :-)

27 minutes? *Laughs bitterly in Ars Magica*

Not from me :-) I agree with all of your anti- points. And my daughter had a couple of board games when she was about 4 which used spinners and they were awful. The only saving grace was that they were flat and game specific so no chance of stealing the dice for another game.

Can’t walk the kids to school when I’m napping though.

The other advantage that you don’t list is that the size of the spinner is only limited by your material. So you could have a spinner that’s the width of a3 paper easily and then write whatever outcomes you liked on it.

They could. They won’t though. Because then you shift the problem to the other end of the day.

Not in the same way that you have them in the US, certainly. And even our local primary school (5-11 years) where theoretically everyone lives no more than 15 minutes walk away in London where there’s a great bus service, we have parents doing drop off by car.

It’s a real challenge though. Despite how many people manage to do a thing uninjured, it’s still a difficult thing to persuade on for something as emotive as β€œprotecting my child”.

21.10.2025 20:39 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It won’t happen in the UK. Despite it being a tiny part of the population, the argument is always about children walking to school in Scotland. Which is on a similar latitude to parts of Alaska, to be fair.

I found it fascinating that @gregstolze.bsky.social said that the most interesting thing about Unknown Armies 1st Ed was that both he and John Tynes were convinced that the other person was putting in about 70% of the work. (Apologies Greg if I’ve misquoted you)

I am still trying to convince my wife of the value of the European model of two separate duvets on a double bed.

21.10.2025 20:22 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Fair. But I won’t share my pies …

21.10.2025 17:26 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

As opposed to β€œwe assume 3 pies” and now I feel hungry?

But you’re just a grubby technician, John, and the sooner you accept that, and the sweeping disdain that comes from some senior academics, the happier you will be in your grubby little life, dear boy.

(Ask me how I know …)
