Something to put in your calendar to live another year for then. Not that we have an actual date you could pin the event to.

But I'm probably not the target audience here. I'd love a greater sense of online comics community, but I'm also a bit of a grump who doesn't want any more reason to stare at his phone. In-person is probably the future for me (once childcare's easier), but I live in Leeds so I'm spoiled with options

Discord seems like the most viable route. And yet, as someone who's retreated a bit from online life (for parenting, and to refocus my attention) I find Discords to be a bit like walking into a post-con party by yourself and trying to make friends. Doable, but kind of off-putting.

I do know what the answer to this is: look at a book or exhibition instead.

But it sucks, having real work tainted by the mere existence of AI slop.

And I don't want to spend my time looking for clues as to whether an image is one or the other.

I find the experience of looking at Pinterest or Instagram's 'for you' tab ruined by the question: 'is this AI generated?'

I don't want to look at fake photos of imaginary scenes sucked from an LLM. I don't want to look at 'art' that wasn't created by a person.

(With my brainiac hat on I think, 'nope!' Which makes watching the film a weird exercise in kayfabe. I find the moment it/he sacrifices it's/him-self genuinely moving.)

(They probably just take for granted that you'll assume he's alive, and don't want to get bogged down in discussing it within the film. But whenever I watch it I just find myself wondering whether it/he's conscious.)

One of the things I like about Big Hero 6 is how they never really suggest that Baymax is 'alive', and yet the film invites you to treat it/him as though it/him is. It's this sort of weird open philosophical space that goes unaddressed. In a Disney film.

There's something satisfyingly knob-like about that picture of Vance, actually. An old man knob, specifically. Great picture choice.

We had a Prime Minister do it. She lasted a few weeks. Not sure you’ll be so lucky.

But, anyway, I think it's f###ing great that Pixar has produced such powerful stories to help children understand themselves and the world around them. I'm glad I gave my daughter a little nudge to engage with it.

EXACTLY the parenting moment we all needed when she was still in her PJs and we had to leave the house in nine minutes.

She got sad and started crying and forcefully told me that Riley DIDN'T need to be sad. I hugged her, and told her that in that moment, Riley did need to be sad, but that it's OK. We all need to be sad sometimes.

I said that everyone needs to feel sad sometimes. It's part of who we are, and it's important to let yourself feel it (I know YOU know this, but she's four).

Solid dad moment this morning: as we watched Sadness turn the console in Inside Out blue I asked my four-year-old why Riley needed Sadness to help her. She asked me to tell her.
