New neurons are generated throughout adult life in the adult neurogenic niche in the hippocampus through activation of reversibly quiescent neural stem cells (NSCs). The cover highlights DCX+ immature neurons (blue) in the hippocampal dentate gyrus of a conditional mutant mouse for Sox5, with recombined Sox5 deficient cells in magenta.
