I use Bing for my searches (when I'm not using Copilot or ChatGPT), because it's an better search product, i.e. fewer, better, higher-quality results, with way less ads.

I just tried Google again for something. God, it's terrible. I can't imagine why you all still use it. And their AI is 🤮.

Long-lived COBOL codebases are all about the edge cases that they handle.

I was 21 when I started at AT&T in their Business Customer Billing system. I had never seen such poorly-formed complexity covering years of changes to products.

Social Security complexity > AT&T. Young kids cannot handle it.

What could possibly go wrong? DOGE to rapidly rebuild Social Security codebase. A safe and proper rewrite should take years not months.

I was a COBOL programmer.

First of all, this is going to fail miserably.

Second of all, if they actually pull it off, it will be a huge victory for AI coding and a great example of how the fed gov't could move faster.
