“I’m sorry, our bitcoin holdings crashed overnight and we are having to use our cash reserves to pay rent instead of your wages.”

The idea that a responsible business owner would take payments in the form of bitcoin is laughable. There’s no way I’d accept a form of “currency” that frequently drops in value by double digit percentage points in a coffee industry with low margins to begin with

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but giving corporations and wealthy people money for nothing is not the same as legalizing less expensive forms of housing construction.

Reaganomics is not the same as repealing segregationist zoning laws

The Supreme Court ruled states can ban trans youth from receiving gender-affirming care, which is scientifically validated.

The Court is now poised to rule states *cannot* ban conversion therapy on kids, which science finds to be akin to torture.

just my two cents on Ezra Klein: he is generally good on policy and his work on things like housing is helpful

the problem is that his punditry is misguided for two reasons:

1) he is not skeptical enough of right wing bad faith

2) he is acting like the U.S. is Hungary, where the right is popular

If you hear about a Mexican Independence Day celebration in your area, go.

There is strength in numbers and — especially if you’re white — you can protect your community just by being there and not flinching if ICE shows up.

These goons are cowards. Don’t be one.

I hope that anti-abundance libs/leftists understand they’re joining ranks with Padilla when they say stuff like “we don’t need more housing, it’s all the landlords’ fault”

Perhaps a time to reconsider knee jerk reactions to that book?

Senator Gillibrand called on Al Franken to resign.
I think she should resign for falsely smearing Zohran Mamdani as a terrorist.

He has never invoked a ‘global jihad’. This is a nasty, Islamophobic racist smear from a sitting Dem senator.

tenement districts wele vero.
On the West Side of Manhattan north of 59th Street, the subway sparked the development of luxury apartment houses for the rich and upper-middle classes, adding to the stock of housing for these groups that had begun with the building of row houses on the side streets along the route of the Ninth Avenue el. 157 Luxury apartment buildings were also constructed in Harlem along the Lenox Avenue line of the first subway. Because too many apartment houses were built in a short period of time, however, there were many vacancies. Some of the apartments began to be rented to blacks and many were subdivided. As a result, Harlem soon became a major center of African-American life and culture. 158

it’s pretty funny that the YIMBY thesis that “building more luxury housing lowers rents” is something that already happened in NYC a century ago

One could easily run on populist, anti-elite messaging, and then govern on a platform of housing and clean energy abundance.

Incredibly Lukewarm take: “Abundance” is largely a call to action on policy (lowering barriers to creating good things)

“Left” critiques largely focus on the messaging and politics of it, which misses the point.
