“Antifa” Protesters Charged With Terrorism for Constitutionally Protected Activity After a protest against ICE, federal prosecutors pursued guilt-by-association charges against two “antifa” protesters.

Guilt-by-association tactics should trouble anyone concerned with protest rights.

Neither of the two protesters facing federal terrorism charges are accused of firing the gunshot that injured a cop during a July 4 protest.

Huge news that the Cop City RICO charges have fallen apart.

Bail fund organizers shouldn't have to fear prosecution. Neither should legal observers. Protesters should not be held collectively liable for any crime committed.

The dropped charges represent a massive victory of sustained organizing.

Tesla profits fell 71% last quarter, and Tesla Takedown protesters are jubilant. Right wing activists and misplaced scrutiny from fusion centers has failed to tamp down a movement that turns out week after week.

If Dems in Congress are serious about wanting access to the National Security Council's records, they should introduce legislation making NSC subject to FOIA.

It's currently not and is a Presidential Records Act entity, which means there's no outside oversight of its records policies.

Encrypted Messaging Is Essential—But It Isn’t Magic As recent events have shown, using an encrypted messaging app like WhatsApp or Signal is no privacy panacea.

Signal is a great privacy tool, but it isn’t magic. And even if you’re not discussing war plans in your group chat, it’s a good idea to know the limits of encryption.

The risk profile for your average activist versus your Hegseths of the world is different. The natsec officials are targets of concerted foreign hacking ops; your average activist or journalist is not.

Signal remains a great tool for surveillance self defense!

'It's so unbelievable': Cyber world stunned over war planners using Signal Regardless of app security, experts say communicating the military plans of the U.S. government in a non-classified space creates a massive security vulnerability.

Here's an article about what's wrong with using Signal for natsec stuff - aside from records law violations, there are vulnerabilities introduced if you have malware on your personal computer or are a likely high value hacking target: www.politico.com/news/2025/03...

If you're not the government (bound to intra-governmental oversight and higher security channels), Signal is a pretty darn good tool for discussing sensitive info.

But, if there's a moral of the story here for activists, it should be: your digital security is only as good as your vetting.

Justice Department deletes database tracking federal police misconduct The Trump administration has removed a nationwide database of federal police officers’ misconduct, launched by the Biden administration to keep bad cops from jumping from job to job.

I mentioned this was a possibility after the first report was issued in January.

The database contained info on misconduct for 2018 through 2023 and held 4,790 records.

I’d keep a close eye on DOJ’s Bureau of Justice Statistics website.
