So we thank you for the emails, phone calls, shared posts and even just positive attitudes and smiles to strangers during these terrible times. The best you can give to reverse the flow of evil is enough, even if your gestures feel less grand than those of others.

To anyone who needs to hear this: We acknowledge that many of the suggested protests are activities for the privileged. Not everyone can afford to take off work, anger an employer, risk relationships key to survival and safety, choose the more expensive stores, etc.

Hey this works both ways! They wanna do away with DEI and equal opportunity? Then every application from a white male that comes across my desk goes straight to the round file, no apologies. 🤷

A timely reminder for me. I'm a terrified mom, wife, and gov employee, worried about my federally-funded employees, wishing I could relax this weekend but freaking out instead. 😞 But the sunrise was pretty... Local coffee shops are calling to me. I should set my phone down and get out there.

Our distinguished old man and source of comfort, Mr. Roosevelt. He's notched with scars from an indoor-outdoor life. He turned out to be more Teddy, less Franklin. 🥹 He's not quite so adventurous as he used to be. I wish he could share his old stories of navigating the jungle of our neighborhood.

I'm in an anxiety-rich spiral not sure where to draw the line between paranoid and prudent, tearing up as I write this because I just want to protect my family...

How far down the dark path is too far at this stage? Do we break our bleeding hearts and purchase a gun for protection in our rabidly red state - which we swore we would NEVER do? Do we need a garden? Do we need to get cash out of the bank? Do we need to get our trans teen out of the country?

"Fun" stuff for upcoming summer vacations: Where can we eat out on vacation without breaking our new vow to only patronize local, liberal-leaning establishments? What are the best alternatives to Airbnb, which we have used religiously and successfully for years?

How do I support my kids' education if/when the Department of Education is dissolved and now that students and teachers are permitted to be racist and homophobic? When the economy crashes and I don't want to use cheap chain and bog-bix stores, how do we lower costs and stay fed and clothed?

I've been turning recently from trying to help my country to how to help my family. I'm taking notes, making lists, and wondering if other moms are doing the same. What ideas do you have? I have a supportive husband, an endangered government job, and not near enough drugs to combat what I'm feeling.
