While some people argue that scientists should remain on Twitter to try and reach, and hopefully persuade, the audience there, I ask you this: did you create a TruthSocial or 4Chan account to try and reach those people, or did you stay away because the audience is full of conspiracy-prone extremists who hate you? Twitter should absolutely be thought of in the same way now. And even if you want to stay, the algorithm is working against you.

We absolutely have one or two followers who are convinced of this point: you should stay on Twitter to fight the good fight. This paragraph by @whysharksmatter.bsky.social should disabuse you of that most Cuchulain-like attempt to fight the sea of disinfo. The algorithm wasn’t written for that.

The Center for Plant Molecular Biology (ZMBP) at the University of Tübingen invites applications for an Independent Junior Group Leader (m/f/d) position. We seek a new colleague who will establish a vibrant and competitive research program in any research area of experimental Plant Molecular Biology. We expect the successful candidate to contribute to the excellent scientific environment by her/his/their proven scientific record, interactions with the research groups of the ZMBP, and participation in existing and planned larger research consortia like CRCs and excellence cluster initiatives. The position is vacant as of March 1st, 2025 and initially limited to 6 years. The ZMBP provides lab space with full equipment, funding for staff, start-up money, an independent annual budget, shared equipment funds and mentoring. A postdoc position (E13 TV-L 100%, 3 years) is available in the Evolution of Plant Signaling Lab at the ZMBP (Tübingen, Germany) to work on the regulation of receptor kinases in the green lineage. Using an evolutionary approach and diverse model species including Marchantia, we will characterise the role of these signaling pathways in plant immunity and development. We are looking for a highly motivated, curiosity-driven candidate with a PhD in plant molecular biology, and experience in molecular biology and biochemistry. Excellent writing and communication skills in English and teamwork abilities are required.
