14.02.2026 13:12 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Doing that thing where you're going through Stevie songs trying to find a suitable one to dedicate to the missus for Valentine's Day, and seeing how long it takes before you start filling up like a soppy sod. I landed on You And I, and had to tap out before Stevie had even opened his mouth.

13.02.2026 20:08 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0During the making of D'Angelo's "Voodoo", there were plans for a Dilla-produced duet between D'Angelo & Lauryn Hill.
Lauryn reportedly no showed and nothing ever materialized, but Questlove played a portion of this beat in a 2013 RBMA lecture, one of the four originally made for the collaboration.
My youngest nephew listens to everything from post-hardcore, prog-rockers like Dream Theater, music-school noodlers like Vulfpeck and 90s underground hip-hop like Big L. The old 80s ideas of subcultural "tribes" who define themselves by their (rigid) taste in music wouldn't last five minutes now.
13.02.2026 18:04 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yeah, the decline of TOTP played a part as well. Afterwards there was less of a focus on what was broadly popular, and pop became much more atomised as a result. The Friday night TOTP re-runs on BBC4 are a fantastic snapshot of how not just tastes in pop but pop itself has changed across the decades
13.02.2026 17:58 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I absolutely love that. Doom was the fringiest of the fringe for years until this peculiar cult began to emerge around him - I see it with other rappers too - and he ended up becoming an entry point to the music for an entirely new audience.
13.02.2026 17:50 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The Young People Nowadays take a much more pluralist approach to music. When I was a teen, there was a weekly music press that functioned as tastemaker-gatekeeper, but the young 'uns neither need nor give a shit about that. They can just listen to a thing and decide right away if they like it or not
13.02.2026 17:45 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0I'd say there's plenty you can do with a guitar, but rock music (in the broad sense) is just a very conservative form that doesn't really reward the adventurous. Most of the people who like it seem to prefer it at its most orthodox, which is fine but it doesn't make for too many startling moments.

It's the fact we are creating single points of failure in the NHS, armed forces, and police. Palantir has massive leverage over essential information and logistics systems. A bad idea....
