I am in the odd situation that my HS friends mostly went to college in the same area, but three different schools, then we all lived in the same city (two were roomies) for several years after. One of them is a friend from kindergarten.

My family has vacationed with my HS GF’s family.

I have three pieces of art by a HS friend, one commissioned by my wife.

I actually went to my 35th HS reunion. Only a couple close friends there, but managed to figure out a class or two with most of the others.

I’ve taken my family on vacation with my HS girlfriend’s family.

Friend I’ve had since kindergarten I’m not in touch with much, but could immediately crash on his couch tomorrow (and vice versa) if I needed to.

I have a similar story. Best friend. Best man at my wedding. Something went sideways, helped his family get him help, never spoke to me again. Still alive last I checked.
