Without a massive bollard or two, and without an implied zebra crossing.... these are just easy access ramps so drivers don't scrape their alloys while they just pop to the shops for 'I'll only be 5 minutes lad'....

One thing I've learned from the Internet is that a lie needs 0% proof to be believed, but the truth requires thousands of pages of proof and still won't be believed.

I'll soon be commuting at night.. in rain.. on roads with dozens, if not 100s of potholes between home and work.

Yeah...

Yeah, what ICE started, will continue and accelerate into what remains of every front garden... Because with ICE there was never a real financial incentive to off road parking, but with EVs, home charging is a massive cost saving. Every inch will be squeezed with little oversight or control.

This. But it's every remaining last front garden there is.... Not even an official drive, there's only a short dropped kerb.

Yeah, tailpipe emissions are removed. Fantastic. But the 'driveways' that are being built now, replacing gardens all across the UK, they're often edge to edge tarmac of paving stones.

In any street you can watch this happening in real time.

Crossing the Wear though... Damn, last time I was there, none of those bridges looked like something I'd wanna cycle on!!

Everything here gets worse with widespread adoption of EVs. Every last front garden will be gone, every wall demolished to make a DIY drive. Concrete and tarmac to carry the weight.

With ICE there was no financial incentive, with EV and home charging, 'fuel' is almost free.

I've never seen an example of this, in publicity photos, that didn't use a tarmac path.

There's no examples of paving stones or other surfaces. All of which are likely to look much worse than this mess.

While I understand the BBC’s imperative to provide balance in stories, at times it can feel completely ludicrous. Data vs one person’s entirely anecdotal opinion isn’t balance.

Somewhat sensationalist headline here obscures some really interesting research - which tallies with other available tracking data - on shifting attitudes to climate in the UK.

Below are a few quick thoughts on how to understand this, in my view πŸ‘‡ t.co/gDqlQgQBHn

I've got a much older Garmin (810 maybe) from 2013.... and yeah, it kinda sounds like some really obvious issues still exist. 'Off course' warnings regularly.. stupid overlapping colours of the route.. there's more too.

It really feels like I'm fighting against the device when I use it.

Mine keeps telling me it has a software update waiting. I think there's a none-zero chance it will completely brick the car. Out of manufacturers warranty.

I've been clicking 'Later' for a good while.

Still not sure how to proceed.

We've had a few flags ceremoniously cable tied to lighting columns around the area and after about a week, the edges are already fraying. They will be a metaphor by the winter.

My mate is a very capable bike fettler, and a good bloke. Frame resprayed by a local place. Then carefully selected campag... I randomly met him on his first shakedown ride.

I wish I could've been there the first time he turned up to the Sunday cafe on this...

Ya know, that was no bother at all... In a country of car centric infrastructure, driving a car is often the only practical option. Sadly.

EVs will enable more driving per vehicle, so once all ICE are replaced with EVs there will be huge pressure to build new roads, wider roads, and land grab any space that could still be used for walking or cycling or... trains / busses.

EVs will simply consume all the space available.

Cool. So the light I already have is in the right ball park, 1200 if I remember right. If I change my route, it'll probably only be 20 minutes on an unlit path, the rest will have street lights.

Really helpful. I've got a Moon brand light that does 1200 or 1300 lumens, but I've barely ever used it full power in the dark (only 1 long tunnel on my commute that's unlit). Good to know that something along that spec is what you are using...

When you drive to work, the story is invariably, get in the car, drive to work, get stuck in traffic, be miserable, get to work.

When you cycle to work, every day is an adventure. Lets follow an intrepid cycle commuter. This commuters journey to work is 12.5 miles, and he has a tailwind!
