In this project we analyze why, how, and through which interlocutors Rousseau might have turned to Tlaxcala as his only relatively contemporary example for a virtuous republic. We also analyze Tlaxcala's anti-imperial politics on its own terms, via primary texts in Tlaxcalan political thought.
