I don't blame the guest or the hosts for their competing access needs. In some no-shoes cultures, hosts provide extra slippers at the door, which is a good model. My friends who lived in Poland had a mudroom in their US house with lots of warm, hard soled slippers for guests.

In some countries where this neofascistic tendency is prevalent, adherents are actually describing themselves as fascists. Or just saluting like Nazis.

Some of this is returning to past institutionalized inequality in a familiar way, but some of it is distinctly fascistic. If racism creates states of exception to legality, then fascism is the next step toward overturning the rule of law.

I think there's a way that neoliberalism (paradoxically, a conservative movement!) paved the way for fascism. So you can see bad things that happened within our institutions as the seed for destroying those institutions.
