The House that Sailed Away, by Pat Hutchins, has that sentiment in it, & it’s 50 years old this year. (Heavens, another anniversary to add to the Edmund Fitzgerald & the Dismissal of the Whitlam Government.)

Fifty years ago, if you mean the Whitlam Dismissal. Ignore me if you meant something else.

Drunk man must have standard size feet. Not all of us do.

Oh no. And not knowing what you sound like, the version happening in my head sounds like Shirley Bassey.

Well, maybe the first to say I noticed. Surely someone else has had their attention caught, even if they didn’t mention it.

You’ll be pleased to know that buying from Kobo involved absolutely no snafus at all. I must confess that I’ve got no further as yet than your denunciation of AI, & it’s likely ability to provide shockingly bad afternoon tea. I didn’t expect the legal material to provide a grin, but there we are.

They haven’t refunded me, so I cancelled the ebook. I might try Kobo instead. And if BigSouthAmericanRiver is being unreasonable, apologies aren’t needed. It isn’t your fault they can be humongous dingbats.

Ah. So possibly no ebook version next week? Good thing I’ve just bought the print copy from your shop online, because I’d probably want a print copy sooner or later anyway.

But now the sun is out again, but for how long? Make up your mind, today’s weather, make up your mind.

Had some rather spectacular rumbleclouds this morning, & now the BoM is predicting more. I’d believe it when I see it, but the wind is blowing rather more than a gentle breeze, and the sky is beginning to darken in despite of Daylight Savings Time.

You’re welcome. You’re ahead of me on the reading part, but I’ll finish it later today.

@patchworkmouse.bsky.social I’ve just been made aware of a new Penric & Desdemona book & wanted to know if you had heard too.

I did, yes. I will be patient until your travels allow you to dispatch my copy. They do say good things come to those who wait after all.

Think it was about then that we had to set a few traps too, but I expect it gets worse further inland.

Thank you, Ms Cooke, for bringing this to my attention. Somehow I missed it before, but I’ll make up for that when my just purchased copy arrives.

Glad someone else mentioned that.

Mild concern: just saw a mouse on the back verandah, skittering off toward the back stairs. I do hope it never finds the doggy door & learns how to get in. Also, we might need to watch how we keep the folding door from the loungeroom to the verandah open. No waltzing in, mouse, don’t do it.

I’m glad you saw the elephant.

2) a peekaboo in response to the bub. I did find myself feeling a bit sorry for bub’s Mum, because sometimes bub’s response was to show us how good bub is at bouncing on the parental legs. Bub’s Mum took it well, probably because other people were helping keep bub entertained, instead of screaming.

Accompanied Mum to an appointment at lunchtime today. A woman came in with her very small child. Bub looks at me, big-eyed, & I wave to bub, who looks at me again. I wave again, but when it happens once more I pulled an Ooo surprised face. This turned into a game - a wave, a face pulled or 1)

Murder in the Cathedral has downloaded to my ereader app. Took a quick look at the About the author pages, and sadly it’s in the past tense, seeing as this is a posthumous book for Kerry Greenwood. Alas.

He’s in his bed now, looking much more comfortable, so that’s something, I s’pose.

I need to change the mop head sometime soon: there was a lot of mopping up after Jasper today, with him losing his ability to stay upright because the floor was slippery, thanks to his efforts. It’s related to your problem but not the same at all.

Right, that’s going into my quotefile. Even without context it makes me smile.

The Tongans are playing football against the Kiwis this afternoon. The Tongans issued their challenge first, then the Kiwis responded with a haka. After it finished, the camera caught a couple of Tongans with big grins on their faces. Of course this is serious, & yet…

So the second photo is saying, β€œNevermore!”? (The wig was great, but it’s understandable if it started getting in the way of having a fun time.)

Hazy sort of a day out there, overcast, occasional misty dampness from the sky. I’m almost thinking that the backyard beyond the verandah is from another realm, ever so slightly detached from the known.

Am glad Mum didn’t have to stay on until now: there’s a bit of a storm brewing. Instead, she is having her evening meal in bed. On a tray, even. She was impressed.
