Listening to David Lammy on @BBCr4today attempting to justify abolishing trial by jury, it is increasingly and terrifyingly clear that he simply does not understand the issues.

As set out in this thread, the causes of the court backlog are chronic lack of funding and absurd inefficiency.

The government has made no proposals to address either. Their answer is to remove juries.

Rather than fix the leaking roof, their solution is to burn the house down.

There's increasing evidence that in organoid/embryoids conditions of cells at start of experiments is crucial/ determines outcome. Much to be learnt still. Taking advantage of mouse #gastruloids, two groups explore this here. Important work to calibrate the field www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

I do like the @dev-journal.bsky.social "Research Report" format for shortish papers

This one is valuable. "Is it the N2B27?" is the stem cell biologist version of "Is it the magnesium?"

Look at this amount of work that has gone into the analysis of these beautiful (yes, we are biased) images of rods and rings. Now you can automatically classify these structures which is rather tedious to do manually. πŸ”¬πŸ“·πŸ–ΌοΈπŸ’»πŸ“„ bmcbiol.biomedcentral.com/articles/10....

Excellent work supporting #modularity of the mammalian #embryo, a role for #hypoxia & how development exploits these features. It shows what we can learn from assemblies of #gastruloids @ spatio-temporal coordination of the modules in AP organization. Putting modules together, extremely informative
